Job Summary:
The Program Lead – Access to Security and Justice will provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for all programs related to the criminal justice system. The role requires a seasoned legal professional with strong program management skills who can design, implement, and evaluate interventions that enhance justice delivery, protect vulnerable populations, and drive systemic reform.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction for LGCF’s Access to Security and Justice thematic area.
- Design, implement, and oversee projects focused on criminal justice reform, legal aid, inmate rehabilitation, torture prevention, and survivor support.
- Lead program planning, budgeting, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting in line with donor and organizational requirements.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders including government agencies, correctional services, law enforcement, judiciary, civil society organizations, and development partners.
- Supervise program staff and consultants, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration
- Facilitate and coordinate capacity-building workshops, training, and technical sessions for law enforcement officers, correctional personnel, judicial actors, and other relevant justice-sector stakeholders, with a focus on human rights, access to justice and criminal justice reform.
- Ensure compliance with national legal frameworks and international human rights standards.
- Provide technical legal guidance across organizational projects when required.
- Support resource mobilization by contributing to grant proposals, concept notes, and donor reports.
- Initiate and nurture networks and alliances with academia, and research institutes
- Represent LGCF at high-level meetings, policy dialogues, and sector engagements.
- Identify policy gaps and lead advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening the criminal justice system.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to amplify program results and showcase impact.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B); a Master’s degree in Law, Human Rights, Criminology, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years post-call experience, preferably with significant exposure to human rights, or justice sector programming preferably in the NGO sector, working on access to justice and human rights in a similar role..
- Demonstrated experience managing complex development or donor-funded programs.
- Strong knowledge of Nigeria’s criminal justice system and reform landscape.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Proven experience working with government agencies and research institutes
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation abilities.
- Strong proposal writing, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Strong knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation methodology
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to social justice.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and stay on task
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
