The MENTOR Initiative is a specialist INGO focused on tropical disease control, working with the Borno State Ministry of Health to enhance lifesaving health services, including vector-borne disease surveillance and control. We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our Emergency Response Program, providing essential disease prevention and health services to vulnerable communities in Borno State.
Job Opportunity: Pharmacy Technician
Location: Maiduguri/Jere, Nigeria, with field visits to other locations
Duration: 6 months (renewable based on funding)
Start Date: ASAP
Reports to: Medical Officer
Position Overview
Main Responsibilities
- Stock Management (Mobile Clinics)
- Prepare drugs, materials, and equipment for mobile clinics, ensuring readiness before field deployment.
- Oversee pharmacy stock in/out management at mobile clinics.
- Calculate daily consumption for each item to prevent shortages.
- Conduct weekly physical inventory of mobile clinic pharmacy.
- Prepare weekly drug orders with support from medical staff.
- Drug Distribution (Mobile Clinics)
- Dispense drugs per medical prescriptions and clarify incomplete prescriptions with medical staff.
- Label dispensing bags with drug name, dosage, and instructions.
- Educate patients on treatment usage and potential side effects, ensuring understanding.
- Complete daily consumption records and uphold patient confidentiality.
- Data Collection and Analysis
- Gather daily consumption data for mobile clinics.
- Participate in weekly computerization and analysis of drug consumption.
- Reporting and Meetings
- Submit weekly activity reports to the pharmacist and team leader.
- Actively participate in MENTOR internal meetings and training sessions.
- Additional Duties
- Support loading/unloading of vehicles and setting up mobile clinics.
- Maintain assigned equipment and uphold standards of respect, dignity, and confidentiality in patient care.
- Report security concerns immediately to the designated focal point.
Note: Duties may vary due to the changing humanitarian environment. Flexibility is essential.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Certified Pharmacy Technician or Medical Technician
- Experience: Prior experience in medicine dispensing, stock management, and primary healthcare. INGO experience preferred.
- Knowledge: Clinical protocols, drug dispensing practices, and community health provision in Nigeria, especially in mobile clinic settings.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Kanuri; Hausa proficiency is an advantage.
- Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and management skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
