Overview: iCARE Plus Clinical Research Center (CRC) is funded by the United States National institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct interventional trials over 5 years with outcomes across the HIV care continuumin youth aged 15-24, including young men who have sex with men (MSM), through new Clinical Research Performance Sites (CRPSs) in HIV “hotspots” across Nigeria’s six geopolitically distinct zones. The CRPSs include Akwa Ibom, Benue, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, and Taraba. 

The Enugu CRPS seeks to recruit two (2) Outreach Coordinators at the two clinical sites in Enugu State (1 at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, 1 at General Hospital Enugu Ezike). The Outreach Coordinators will be responsible for the coordination of the HIV case finding arm of the iCARE Plus study involving young men at risk of HIV infection, particularly young men who have sex with men (YMSM) in Enugu State. The services of a full time Outreach Coordinator on a contract basis for one year in the first instance but renewable thereafter based on satisfactory performance is required. 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Testing peer navigators to engage individuals on social media platforms, in their neighborhoods or venues where they typically congregate to provide HIV-related health information, education, referrals, and linkage to services. 
  • Work with the Program Manager, Testing arm lead, site leader at the satellite site, and the Principal Investigator in planning and implementing the HIV case finding arm of the iCARE Plus study.
  • Ensure availability condoms and lubricants for distribution to hot-spots  
  • Will adhere to strict procedures of confidentiality, the release of information, and data security.
  • Will maintain accurate and complete participant records, tracking contacts, counseling, testing, referrals, and outreach performance as defined by iCARE Nigeria Plus models.
  • Will document activities and write reports for program monitoring.

  • Report any anomaly or protocol deviation promptly to the PI through the Program Manager and the Co-Is. 
  • Support the planning and co-facilitate step-down trainings.
  • Carry out any tasks that may be assigned by the PI and Co-Is of the project.

Minimum requirements

  • HND or bachelor’s degree in any health-related field is preferred with experience working with PLWHA
  • Not older than 35 years of age.
  • HIV training experience with a good knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention, outreach, and health promotion (among Key Populations).
  • Bilingual/bicultural skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of specialized services for people with HIV/AIDS; substance abuse; domestic violence.
  • Computer skills using Microsoft software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, social media apps)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work hands‐on with limited resources, independently or in a team setting.
  • A team player, able to work cohesively with others and perform related tasks effectively.
  • Healthy in relational skills.
  • One who listens well, speaks respectfully and assertively, honors diverse perspectives, and is honest.
  • Energetic and willing to work flexible shifts, including some nights and weekends.
