We are seeking a motivated and passionate Volunteer Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL) Officer to support the implementation of our monitoring and evaluation systems while gaining valuable practical experience in humanitarian programming.
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria
Duration: 6 Months (Renewable based on performance and organizational needs)

Position Summary
The Volunteer MEAL Officer will support the implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) activities across TTHO projects. Working under the supervision of the Programme Manager or MEAL Officer, the volunteer will assist in data collection, data management, field monitoring, reporting, and learning activities to improve programme quality and accountability.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for young professionals seeking practical experience in humanitarian monitoring and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
The Volunteer MEAL Officer will:
Monitoring
- Support routine field monitoring visits and project implementation tracking.
- Assist in monitoring project indicators against approved work plans.
- Verify programme outputs and beneficiary records.
- Participate in post-distribution monitoring and field assessments.
Data Collection & Management
- Assist in developing digital data collection tools using KoboToolbox, ODK, or SurveyCTO.
- Support data collection exercises, including baseline, endline, needs assessments, and surveys.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Perform data entry, cleaning, validation, and secure storage.
- Maintain project databases and electronic records.
Reporting
- Compile monitoring data for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
- Prepare data summaries, tables, charts, and dashboards.
- Support documentation of project achievements, lessons learned, and best practices.
Accountability & Learning
- Support the implementation of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) mechanisms.
- Assist in managing beneficiary feedback and complaints systems.
- Participate in learning and reflection meetings.
- Support documentation of success stories and case studies.
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in coordination meetings and capacity-building sessions.
- Ensure compliance with organizational MEAL policies and humanitarian standards.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Experience
- Previous volunteer or internship experience with an NGO is an added advantage.
- Experience in data collection or community engagement is desirable.
- Knowledge of humanitarian programming will be an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Basic understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation concepts.
- Familiarity with KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, or similar digital data collection tools is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Willingness to travel to project locations within Borno State when required.
