Position Title: Health Program Coordinator
Department: Programs Directorate – Health Unit
Reports To: Head of Programs
Duty Station: Maiduguri, Borno State (with regular travel to field LGAs: Jere, Konduga, and MMC)
Contract Type: Full-time

Purpose:
The Health Program Coordinator will lead the establishment and management of Grow Strong Foundation (GSF) Health Unit, providing strategic and technical leadership for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of integrated health, nutrition, and cancer prevention interventions in Borno State.
The role will ensure that GSF’s health programs align with national health priorities, humanitarian standards and donor requirements, while fostering strong collaboration with key partners such as the Borno State Ministry of Health (BOSMOH), PHCDA, UMTH, WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Nigeria Cancer Society, as well as local and international organizations including IOM, IRC, MSF, Action Against Hunger (AAH), Save the Children and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Program Leadership and Coordination
- Lead the setup and operationalization of GSF’s Health Unit, including program planning, staffing and resource allocation.
- Oversee implementation of primary health care, nutrition, MHPSS, Malaria and cancer prevention activities across target LGAs.
- Develop and manage annual workplans, budgets and technical reports in collaboration with program and finance teams.
- Ensure integration of health, nutrition and protection programming across all GSF projects.
- Represent GSF in Health Sector Working Group (HSWG), coordination meetings and inter-agency forums.
2. Technical Oversight
- Provide technical guidance and quality assurance for all health and nutrition activities.
- Oversee disease prevention campaigns, WASH-health integration, immunization outreach, Malaria and cancer awareness programs.
- Ensure CHVs and field teams are trained on early disease detection, screening and referral systems.
- Support integration of MHPSS and GBV components into health programs to enhance holistic care delivery.
3. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Support M&E staff to design tools, indicators, and reporting templates for health activities. Ensure accurate and timely data collection, analysis, and reporting for all projects.
- Conduct field monitoring visits and provide technical feedback for continuous improvement.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and case studies for internal and external dissemination.
4. Partnership and Representation
- Strengthen partnerships with BOSMOH, PHCDA, UMTH, WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA and Nigeria Cancer Society.
- Represent GSF at sectoral coordination meetings and donor engagements.
- Facilitate joint reviews, capacity assessments, and project evaluations with partners.
- Maintain strong collaboration with community structures and local government health departments.
5. Resource Mobilization and Proposal Development
- Lead resource mobilization efforts for health and nutrition programs through proposal writing and donor engagement.
- Identify funding opportunities with UN agencies, development partners and foundations.
- Contribute to the design of concept notes, budgets and technical proposals for healthrelated grants.
- Work closely with the Partnerships and Grants Unit to track funding pipelines and ensure donor compliance.
6. Team Management and Capacity Building
- Supervise and mentor health program staff, ensuring strong team cohesion and professional growth.
- Facilitate capacity-building sessions for staff, volunteers and community health workers.
- Conduct performance appraisals, coaching, and on-the-job training for continuous improvement.
7. Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to national health policies, Sphere standards and WHO guidelines.
- Oversee effective use of resources and compliance with GSF financial and procurement procedures.
- Integrate safeguarding, gender equality and inclusion principles into all program activities. Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, Health Sciences, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in managing public health or humanitarian health programs.
- Proven experience in program coordination, donor reporting, and resource mobilization.
- Experience working with government agencies, UN agencies (WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA), and NGOs.
- Demonstrated skills in proposal writing, budget development, and partnership management.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership, coordination, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proficiency in data management tools (DHIS2, Kobo, Excel, etc.)
- Deep understanding of Borno State’s health challenges and humanitarian landscape.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
