  • ICON seeks a dynamic senior leader with exceptional management skills to serve as the Head of Programs (HOP) for its multisectoral programs.
  • The HOP is an inspirational, energetic, seasoned, organized, and flexible executive-level administrator with a deep commitment to ICON’s vision and mission, combined with empathy for its clients and staff, dedication to high-quality service delivery, and a strong track record of getting exceptional results.
  • Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the HOP will provide leadership, direction, management, and guidance in a collaborative manner with respect to organizational programs and operations.
  • The HOP is a member ICON’s executive team, ensuring that the organization’s program and institutional operations plans are set according to long-term organizational strategy and external regulations, and activities are coordinated, integrated, data-driven, and well-executed with attention to detail.
  • Overall, the HOP will be responsible for the oversight, management, and strategy development of community programming, developing a cohesive programmatic and impact vision to enhance the organization’s holistic service model.
  • The HOP will also play a critical role in coordinating and tracking impact across the organization and evaluating the effectiveness of programs to provide ongoing feedback and address potential gaps, oversee the development of new programs to ensure they are in line with the strategic vision, and strengthen existing services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Strategy and Design

  • Oversee the coordination and integration of ICON’s programs, promoting collaborative relationships between program areas to ensure that the expectations of funders, partners, clients, and other stakeholders are met.
  • Lead the ongoing design, implementation, and refinement of ICON’s programmatic strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational vision and goals, and the strategic plan.
  • Ensure high-quality execution of ICON’s programs and oversee ongoing analysis and evaluation of program data to ensure ICON is using evaluation to improve programs and communicate program effectiveness to appropriate stakeholders effectively and continuously.
  • Monitor emerging needs and trends in the ICON-focused fields that might inform ICON’s programmatic goals

Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a key member of ICON’s senior leadership team, contributing to the development and refinement of organizational strategy and goals.
  • Oversee the program team, develop and maintain a broad and deep knowledge of all program areas and provide strategic leadership and support to promote a collaborative, innovative.
  • Serve as the primary programmatic liaison to ICON’s Board of Directors; liaise with the Program Committee to ensure their engagement with program implementation and outcomes.
  • Attend and present on program outcomes at quarterly Board meetings.

Staff Management and Operation

  • Develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward ICON’s vision and goal, by clearly communicating the vision, implementing yearly staff development plans, providing and recommending training and capacity building and mentoring.
  • Establish annual program, departmental, and staff goals and objectives and track results against these goals as well as accountability protocols.
  • Participate in the budget development process and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility. Support fund development efforts through the promotion and execution of ICON annual fundraising events, report writing and partner with the CEO to steward funding relationships.
  • Serve as liaison to key government agencies, represent the CEO, on relevant committees and task forces, as well as at speaking engagements, conference panels, and trainings.
  • Monitor emerging needs among key stakeholders such as youth, government, philanthropy, and employers.
  • Oversee the coordination, integration, and delivery of all programs, contracts, and related services, promoting collaborative relationships between program areas and ensuring that the expectations of funders, partners, constituents, youth, and other stakeholders are consistently met.
  • Respond to government and foundation requests for proposals and applications in partnership with development and senior staff; coordinate planning and activities necessary for the development of model program designs in response to RFPs and RFAs.
  • Work closely with the finance department to budget and monitor programmatic operations to ensure sound fiscal and system management.
  • Ensure the delivery of qualitative and quantitative goals and outcomes of programs and services.
  • Provide leadership and input for strategic plan development and implementation. Develop and lead an organizational performance assessment process that collects and manages appropriate data and evaluates progress against programmatic, operational, and financial goals. Remain current on developments in the field by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.

Evaluation

  • Coordinate and analyze the appropriate data to inform programmatic decision-making in line with ICON’s mission; analyze and assess programs based on data collected and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Develop performance and outcome measures to capture cross-cutting impact for clients.
    Support with the implementation of a new set of key performance indicators and impact measurement routines, including routines for integrating client feedback into decision-making and reporting on progress.

General

  • Recruit, manage, develop, and evaluate program-related leaders and contractors/consultants
  • Lead effective program teams and management and supervisory meetings
  • Conduct, attend, and participate in internal meetings to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual program progress reports (internal and external)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by CEO.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-15 years of demonstrated success in leadership, management, problem-solving, strategic planning, program design, and implementation in the nonprofit and/or public sectors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ICON’s mission and values as well as knowledge of ICON’s thematic areas.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-performing teams.
  • Superior communications (verbal and written skills) and proven ability to navigate complex interpersonal relationships, foster collaboration, and promote morale and culture; ability to provide feedback and direction across teams.
  • Ability to understand and analyze impact data, particularly in the context of non-profit service provision.

  • Master’s degree preferred with a specialization in human services, social work, management, public administration, business, law, or related field; an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered with extensive specialized experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, social services, public administration, or a related human services-related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least eight (5) years of senior-level professional experience in both program management in high-growth non-profit settings, including program management, and contract management, with at least three (2) years of executive-level management experience
  • Successful track record of developing and administering organizational and program operations priorities and plans
  • Successful track record of developing staff and teams, including coaching, leveraging, and collaboration
  • Successful track record of fundraising and maintaining donor relations
  • Successful track record of building relationships with external partners and harnessing resources for program and community work
  • Successful track record of communicating program work and achievements
  • Experience making and implementing successful recommendations to an executive and Board
  • Experience creating, managing, and reporting on complex budgets for a wide range of programs
  • Experience with project development and management
  • Knowledge of CRM, contract management, and project management software preferred
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards concerning nonprofits and program and institutional operations and administration.

COMPENSATION AND HOURS

  • This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position.
  • Salary is a monthly N200,00-N250,000 commensurate with experience
  • Irregular evening and weekend work hours; flexibility with work schedule
  • Primarily local travel during business hours, although some regional and overnight travel may occur
  • Benefits are generous, including paid employee health and dental insurance (some employee contribution required); voluntary vision and retirement plans are also available.
