Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Data and Analytics officer

Under the supervision of the Water and Habitat (WatHab) Coordinator, the GIS Data and Analytics Officer assists the Existing GIS officer 1 to improve the data collection from the field, analyse, store and display all relevant geographic information available inside or outside the delegation, including satellite imagery and to produce appropriate Mapping products for ICRC publication

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the production of high-quality maps and plans at an appropriate scale and detail to support the operations and reporting objectives of all departments and external stakeholders such as NRCS and others in accordance with ICRC GIS guidelines.
  • Organize, update and maintain the delegation’s geographic repository (Geodatabase).
  • Classify and archive geo-referential data and metadata in accordance with ICRC GIS guidelines.
  • Share the geographic database and cartographic products to the centralized Geodatabase at Geneva headquarter.
  • Assist delegation staff with geographic data collection, research and dissemination of cartographic products (ICRC and others) within the institution.
  • Monitor the consistency and uniformity of data management, ensuring that this is done in accordance with ICRC standards, maintaining the currency, accuracy and integrity of all GIS systems and data to ICRC standards.
  • Provide contextualized technical advice and ensure support in updating and archiving data according to the standard of operation
  • Contribute to the improvement, development and application of data quality control processes and tools (dashboards, etc.) 
  • Perform spatial analysis to meet user needs using dedicated software’s (ArcGIS PRO for example)
  • Maintain GIS metadata and spatial information documentation.
  • Support the delegation staff in collecting geo-data, including creating the ICRC Recipient Places in WatHab Project Assistant (WPA) database.
  • Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant departments.
  • Field travel to the ICRC sub delegations and offices for GIS data support.

Education and Experience Required

  • University degree in social sciences, geography, statistics, information management/technology or Specialization of geographic information science (GIS) and Data management
  • 4 years’ work experience in a similar function.
  • Ability to comfortably work with ArcGIS, ArcGIS online, Adobe illustrator, Garmin Basecamp, Google Earth, ArcGIS Earth, QGIS or other GIS mapping software.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Willingness of self-education in GIS, Web Mapping and IT tools.
  • Very good database managements skills.
  • Good analysis and synthesis capacities
