Job Title: Finance Officer-Internal
Location: Various locations in Nigeria (across the country)
General Context of the Job/Project:
The Finance Officer responsible in ensuring that financial transactions related to projects are in compliance with SHO’s, donor’s rules and procedures, as well as government regulations. Assist in managing budgets, preparing financial reports, and ensuring that all financial transactions are conducted legally and ethically.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Work under the supervision of the Admin/Finance Manager to ensure that financial transactions related to projects comply with SHO’s, donor’s rules and procedures, as well as government regulations.
- Assist in the management of project budgets, including monitoring expenditure against budget lines, identifying variances, and providing recommendations for budget realignments as necessary.
- Prepare financial reports for projects, including budget versus actual analysis, expenditure forecasts, and cash flow projections, in accordance with SHO’s and donor’s reporting requirements.
- Ensure that all financial transactions, including payments, receipts, and transfers, are properly documented, coded, and recorded in SHO’s accounting system, in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of financial documentation for audits, reviews, and donor reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with audit standards and donor regulations.
- Support the Admin/Finance Manager in conducting periodic financial reviews and assessments to identify risks, gaps, and areas for improvement in financial management practices.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project staff on financial procedures, policies, and systems, promoting adherence to best practices and standards in financial management.
- Liaise with project partners, vendors, and service providers to ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, resolving any discrepancies or issues that may arise.
- Keep abreast of changes in financial regulations, accounting standards, and donor requirements, and ensure that SHO’s financial management practices remain up-to-date and compliant.
- Uphold SHO’s principles and values in all interactions and activities, promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in financial management.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, or CIMA is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial management and accounting, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.
- Strong understanding of financial principles, practices, and regulations, with experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and grants management.
- Proficiency in financial software and systems, with experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or similar platforms.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide strategic recommendations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and work as part of a team.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Nigeria is an asset.
