Finance Manager At International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH)

Location: Abuja
Reports to: Program Director

Background:

The International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization established to mainstream the media as a potent tool to accelerate healthcare information and delivery in Nigeria.

ISMPH is currently seeking a qualified and passionate State Program Officer (SPO) to join our team in Kaduna. The SPO will play a key role in advancing public health media advocacy efforts, with a strong focus on Primary Health Care (PHC) and Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Nutrition (RMNCH+N) services.

  • Program Director – Direct Supervisor/ Management
  • All Staff – Financial Management

Job Objectives

  • Responsible for playing a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Ensuing financial statements are prepared in compliance with accounting standards such as IFRS, maintaining the accurate general ledger, and recording all financial transactions to ensure the timely and accurate reflection of the financial position.
  • Responsible for implementation and sustainability of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of all Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Financials Statements, including all statutory reporting
  • Responds to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
  • Provides financial advice by studying operational issues, applying financial principles and practices, developing recommendations for improvement.
  • Authorization of booking of accounting entries in the GL and the Trial Balance in line with the authority limits.
  • Authorization of opening of relevant GL and Trial Balance Account codes and aligning same to ensure that the G L structure is in line with accepted standard by the organization account.
  • Ensuring that the Organization’s Authority Limits are always adhered to
  • Review of payments in line with the Organization’s authority limits.
  • Responsible for effective balance sheet management
  • Review of all items of payments to ensure that relevant taxes are deducted in line with the relevant tax laws.
  • Monthly review of GL and Trial Balance items to ensure correctness.
  • Review of schedules of balances in both statements.
  • Review reconciliations to all accounts in the General Ledger relating to functions in the section and take responsibility for related flash reports
  • Monthly review of staff debtors’ position towards ensuring that cash and tour advances are retired on-time in line with organization’s policies.
  • Be responsible for end-to-end controls of operations and accounting
  • Lead Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR), train and ensure sustainability across the organization
  • Supervision and training subordinates especially in financial controls and retirements
  • Be highly professional, efficient and savvy in all applicable standards
  • Ensure pay slips are given to staff
  • Ensure daily posting and updates on quick books
  • Assist the management to ensure that all audit recommendations are promptly implemented at all levels of management and taking proactive steps to close issues that may lead to audit exceptions.
  • Identify controllable expenses and advise on areas of cost control/reduction to enhance organization profitability.
  • Ensure petty cashbook is updated at all times

Knowledge & skills:

  • Good Knowledge of Financial procurement Build-ups
  • Strongly conversant with the financial accounting standards
  • Strong Communication/Presentation skills
  • Good Knowledge of accounting Structure, and different impact calculations
