Finance Manager At Hope, Compassion, and Mercy Foundation

HCM Foundation; Hope, Compassion, and Mercy Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening health systems through innovative, data-driven, and people-centered approaches. We are seeking qualified candidates for multiple full-time positions across several states.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial operations across Gombe, Kano, and Kaduna, ensuring strict compliance with donor requirements, organizational policies, and Nigerian financial regulations.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, monitor burn rates, track variances, and provide timely financial forecasts to support leadership decision-making.
  • Review and validate all financial transactions, including payments, procurements, staff stipends, advances, and retirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper authorization.
  • Supervise the Finance Officer, ensuring high-quality bookkeeping, complete documentation, regular reconciliations, and maintenance of audit-ready financial records.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for donor review, ensuring alignment with technical and programmatic reporting cycles.
  • Conduct regular bank reconciliations, oversee cash flow management, and ensure adequate liquidity for project activities across all states.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls, financial procedures, and compliance mechanisms to promote transparency and minimize financial risk.
  • Support procurement processes by reviewing financial documentation, verifying vendor compliance, and ensuring correct cost allocation across budget lines and workstreams.
  • Lead preparation for internal and external audits, coordinating documentation, responding to audit queries, and ensuring full compliance with accountability standards.
  • Provide financial guidance to program and state teams on budgeting, documentation requirements, allowable costs, and donor compliance expectations.
  • Monitor staff and consultant contracts from a financial perspective, ensuring timely payments, deliverable tracking, and adherence to contract terms.
  • Advise leadership on financial risks, mitigation strategies, and necessary adjustments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
  • Minimum of 55 years’ experience in financial management, preferably within donorfunded or multi-state projects.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and donor compliance.
  • Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, CPA) is required.
