Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Finance Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and implementing CPHI’s financial processes and policies, ensuring compliance with organizational standards, donor requirements, and national legislation. The Finance Manager will play a crucial role in supporting the Finance & Grant Lead in maintaining robust financial systems that drive strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial accounting matters, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheets, receipts, payments, and payroll.
- Support the Finance & Grant Lead in managing financial systems and software (QuickBooks) to provide accurate financial reporting, budgets, forecasts, and strategic projections.
- Assist in developing and managing the annual budget and quarterly forecasts, ensuring adherence and effective management.
- Manage cash flow requirements for various projects, coordinating with the Finance & Grant Lead to facilitate transfers and top-up requests.
- Generate and analyze monthly financial reports, including Budget vs. Actual spending, reconciliation reports, balance sheets, and petty cash reports.
- Ensure compliance with national, regional, and local taxation requirements and manage all financial reporting activities accordingly.
- Facilitate and support donor and internal audits in collaboration with the Finance & Grant Lead.
- Oversee donor reports and ensure statutory payroll tax compliance (WHT, VAT, PAYE) for state and federal tax agencies.
- Supervise the accounting team in executing functions such as general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and monthly closings.
- Review, manage, and establish internal financial controls, processes, and procedures to maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial information.
- Ensure routine data backup and adherence to data retention policies.
- Conduct continuous assessment of the Finance Department’s structures, policies, and practices to enhance quality control and compliance.
- Manage the year-end process, external audit, and preparation of annual financial statements in coordination with external auditors.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
- ACCA or ICAN professional qualification is required.
- Minimum of 6 years of work experience, with at least 3 years in a mid-level position.
- Experience working in a Nonprofit Organization.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and QuickBooks Accounting software.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and auditing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, supervisory, and communication skills.
- Capacity-building, presentation, and facilitation skills are highly valued.
