Smile for All Children Initiative (fondly called SMILE’s) is a registered non-profit, non-political and National non-governmental women and youth led organization, established in June 2022 by a group of vibrant young men/women with enormous wealth of experience in humanitarian and developmental works, with the mandate of promoting healthy, education and socio-economic wellbeing of children and their vulnerable caregivers. SMILE’s areas of operation are: Benue, Borno, and Yobe State, currently in a bid to extend to Northwest Nigeria. Currently SMILE’s is involved in issues related to woman empowerment, rural water sanitation and hygiene programs, Child Protection, Education in Emergency, climate mitigation, WASH activities and others.

Smile envisions a “society where every child has a decent place to live”, this we intend to achieve by providing and ensuring adequate protection and better care for children and vulnerable caregivers, through a coherent and sustainable engagements with relevant stakeholders such as Government Agencies, Humanitarian Agencies, individuals etc. to foster care between caregivers and their wards and ensure families maintain bond.

SMILE’s believes that children tend to do better when they are in the care of a protective and caring family. They are able to maximize their potentials and are better groomed into a more responsible citizen when raise in a protective and capable families. This largely translate into creating a responsible and capable future generation.

SMILE’s therefore ensures to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure families maintain bonds and those separated by insurgency are traced and reunified, vulnerable families are empowered to better care and provide for their children, and liaise with relevant agencies to curb negligence and abandonment on the part of parents. 

We are looking for suitable individuals to fill the following vacancy:

Position Title: Finance Assistant (Volunteer)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports such as budgets, financial statements, and variance analysis.
  • The proper recording of receipts, payments, fund reimbursements and prompt filing of documents.
  • All financial transactions of assigned project.
  • Ensures timely posting of banking, payments, contracts, and petty cash transactions of the project.
  • Ensure that Ledger accounts are properly maintained and reported in line with SMILE Finance policy requirements and timelines.
  • Participates in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual financial reports for donor agencies and SMILE.
  • Make daily postings to ensure income and expenditures are given proper treatment in the project financial system. Ensure that expenditures are within budgetary allocation and reports variation where applicable.
  • Ensure efficient use of project resources and compliance with organizational, Nigerian, and various donor financial regulations and procedures.
  • Support payroll preparation; tax, pension and other statutory deductions and remit same promptly and appropriately.
  • Ensures monthly bank reconciliation for the project accounts.
  • Monitor receivables and payables aging analysis to ensure compliance with SMILE finance and grants policies provisions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor cash flows and financial transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to provide financial information and support decision-making processes.
  • Maintain financial records and documentation in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and financial reports for donors.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree, HND or ND in Finance, Accounting, or related field.

  1. Proven experience working in finance or accounting roles, preferably in a non-profit organization or similar setting.
  2. Strong understanding of financial principles, regulations, and best practices.
  3. Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  4. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  5. Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  7. Attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Reporting: The Finance Assistant will report directly to Finance Officer/Supervisor.
