Overview
HomeVida, an initiative under the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), is transforming into a media-forward social enterprise that leverages storytelling and film to drive behavioral change, civic engagement, and social accountability.
The Executive Director will lead this evolution – overseeing creative direction, strategic business development, fundraising, and public engagement. This includes identifying and scaling commercial opportunities while preserving the social mission.
Strategic Vision
The Executive Director will lead HomeVida’s repositioning as a hybrid model that:
- Produces revenue-generating media products (films, digital shorts, documentaries),
- Runs impact-driven campaigns,
- Offers training and talent development services for young creatives, and
- Commercializes civic storytelling through strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Business Development & Sustainability
- Develop and implement a 5-year sustainability strategy with diversified income streams: earned income, donor funding, sponsorships, and licensing.
- Establish HomeVida Studios, a boutique production house that develops branded civic films, animations, and PSAs for CSOs, donors, government, and corporations.
- Launch a film-for-development consultancy that produces bespoke content for NGOs, agencies, and campaigns on civic engagement, health, environment, gender, etc.
- Oversee creation of a training school or academy arm: paid filmmaking bootcamps, civic scriptwriting labs, and digital storytelling classes for youth and creatives.
- Develop HomeVida Film Festival & Marketplace (annual): a monetized event platform to showcase integrity films, secure sponsorships, sell streaming rights, and launch new voices.
2. Revenue & Monetization Strategy
- Lead monetization of HomeVida content through:
- YouTube Partner Program (AdSense + sponsorships),
- Branded storytelling campaigns for CSOs and NGOs,
- Partnerships with OTT platforms (like Netflix Naija, Amazon Prime, Showmax),
- Creative corporate campaigns that promote ESG or SDG values.
- Develop and license short films or animations that integrate integrity, inclusion, and civic themes.
- Explore NFTs or token-based storytelling collectives to fund independent short films.
3. Programs & Content Development
- Supervise national script competitions, pitch sessions, and film incubation programs.
- Lead production and quality assurance of funded short films, PSAs, mini-docs, or civic web series.
- Oversee distribution and syndication strategy for HomeVida content across traditional TV, digital, and social media platforms.
- Facilitate youth-targeted storytelling campaigns and participatory content production.
4. Creative & Industry Partnerships
- Establish strategic collaborations with:
- Nollywood producers and guilds (e.g., DGN, SWGN),
- Media schools and film festivals (e.g., AFRIFF, Sundance, FESPACO),
- International cultural institutions (e.g., British Council, Goethe-Institut),
- Streaming platforms, distributors, and content buyers.
- Build alliances with brands aligned with HomeVida’s values for co-produced civic campaigns.
5. Fundraising, Sponsorship & Investor Relations
- Lead resource mobilization through:
- High-value grant applications and innovation funds (e.g., Ford Foundation, Open Society, MacArthur),
- Corporate CSR sponsorships and media partnerships,
- Commissioned storytelling projects for international development agencies.
- Cultivate relationships with investors and venture philanthropists interested in storytelling for good.
6. Leadership, Governance & Team Management
- Lead a cross-functional team: creative producers, M&E specialists, communications, and finance.
- Ensure financial accountability, M&E integration, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with the PPDC board and provide quarterly progress reports on HomeVida’s business and impact growth.
- Build a strong alumni network of young filmmakers and talent nurtured through HomeVida.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Media, Film Production, Business, Development Communications, or Creative Industries. Master’s preferred.
- 7–10 years of leadership in film/media production, social enterprise, or nonprofit sectors.
- Proven track record in content monetization, fundraising, and digital storytelling.
- Experience working with brands, CSOs, and public institutions in civic-oriented content is a strong advantage.
