The CLEEN Foundation (formerly known as Centre for Law Enforcement and Education) is a non-governmental organization established in January ‘1998 with the mission of promoting public safety, security and accessible Justice through the strategies of empirical research, legislative advocacy, demonstration programs and publications, in partnership with government, civil society and the private sector CLEEN Foundation has a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in New York, United States of America since June 2O2O and an observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights based in Banjul, The Gambia.

We seek to recruit highly resourceful, result-oriented and inspiring individuals for the full-time position below in our Abuja Head Office:

About the Role

  • The Executive Director position is a leadership one. The individual will provide program, administrative, budgeting & financial leadership to all staff members of the Foundation.
  • As Executive Director he/she will head the management team of the Foundation, reporting directly to the Board of CLEEN Foundation.
  • He/she will lead on all project ideas, proposal writing and fundraising for the Foundation and ensure at all times that there are adequate funds for the smooth running of the organization.
  • He/she will take the lead in ensuring the development of projects, implementation, knowledge and partnership building around our key thematic focus areas which are Public Safety & Security, Accountability & Justice, Research and Strategy Development & International Programs. He/she will be the relationship manager with CLEEN funders and development partners.

About the Prospective Applicant

  • We are looking fur an exceptional individual with demonstrable leadership experience in running a non-profit organization; and proven skills in project development, management and fundraising, with ability to manage large donor multi-year projects end possessing strong skills in monitoring and evaluation of projects for results and impacts,
  • Prospective applicant must understand the dynamics of the development sector and the critical role of stakeholders engagement across multiple levels from the grassroots right to national end international development partners.
  • Applicant must showcase strong understanding f key concepts, issues and contemporary thinking in public safety security and criminal justice reform in Nigeria, West Africa and globally.
  • Must demonstrate proven experience in building and managing relationships with Government agencies, donor partners, media and civil society organizations at a high level.
  • Must possess demonstratable leadership and interpersonal skills, and ability to build strong relationships and work across different departments while appreciating the diversity of cultures, work styles and diverse perspectives.
  • Applicant must have demonstratable experience in dealing with a Board, providing it support services by planning Board meetings, writing minutes, and communicating to staff relevant extracts of the meeting as it relates to programs administration and finance.
  • Applicant must possess demonstratable problem solving and conflict management skills.

Specific Job Description
The successful candidate will report to the BOARD. He/she would lead the organization in all its existing programs; initiate new programs; administration; proposal writing and fundraising. Specific job descriptions include:

  • Formulating and implementing a new strategy for focusing and coordinating the program work of CLEEN across its various offices
  • Developing new project ideas across the various programs of the Foundation; writing proposals arid raising funds.
  • Ensuring the smooth implementation of existing projects and their renewal at the end.
  • Managing and improving on relationships with program partners and ensuring that reporting obligations are carried out in a timely, efficient and satisfactory manner.
  • Manage the program and administrative teams including assigning staff members to project/program units; motivating ad upskilling them; conducting performance assessments; and overall supervision of the team guided by the Employees Handbook.
  • Establishing sound working relationships anti cooperative arrangements with donor partners, government agencies, civil society organizations; business and beneficiary communities.
  • Directly supervise all management staff in all the office locations and act as Head of the Executive Management Committee, EMC.
  • Ensuring that the organization’s policies anti procedures are adhered to by all staff with the support of the Finance &Admin Manager.
  • Developing and maintaining sound financial management practices consistent with the organizations Finance & Admin Policy, Procedural Manual and Endowment Funds Policy; and ensuring grants received are administered in accordance with grant agreements.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Law or related fields from a reputable university.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the non-profit and development sector
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Program Manager level position in a non-profit organization
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Executive Director level position in a non-profit organization.
  • Experience working around security Sector and criminal justice reform programming is desirable.
  • Membership of reputable professional bodies will been asset
  • Demonstrable team-oriented personality arid leadership skills.
  • Proven project development, fundraising and project implementation skills.
