The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome.

Job Summary

Coordination with members of the regional office, national office and field teams for effective support in the implementation of quality education.

Strengthening the quality of JRS-Nigeria education programs, through continuous investigation and the proposal of improvements in education, within the framework of international standards on education in emergencies.

Thus, in general, the main mission of the Education Supervisor is to:

  • Under the supervision of the Project Director, plan and prepare monthly activities for effective support of school programs in the camps and within project communities according to the established projects guidelines.
  • Define and harmonize the education criteria for JRS-Nigeria.
  • Joint planning, technical support, and supervision in the implementation of all education activities of projects.
  • Provision and development of materials and reference documents for the work of the field teams.
  • Support Project Managers and Program Officers in the development of annual project plans.
  • Actively participate in capacity building activities for teachers of project schools.
  • Supervise and coordinate ongoing training planned for projects.
  • Implementation and improvement of the education monitoring plan for JRS Nigeria.
  • Accompany the self-care process.
  • Provide technical support for JRS projects and the smooth process of mainstreaming supported out of school children into formal school.
  • Accompaniment of the support work of Parents’ Teachers Associations and SBMCs, and strengthen the process of community participation.
  • Technically support the JRS team in developing exit strategy for projects.
  • Create and sustain positive working relationship with staff, partners and key stakeholders at all level (community, LGEA, State, etc) to ensure coordination of project activities.
  • Regular participation in education coordination meetings with UNHCR, EIEWG and other partners, education cluster and coordination meetings with the Federal Ministry of Education.
  • Build Capacity of Education Officers and Volunteer Teachers through trainings, coaching, performance management, implementation as well as in learning and reflection events.
  • Ensure that the JRS Education Program experience is represented and given recognition at stakeholder meetings, workshops, donor, networks, and any other engagements.
  • Support field teams in the technical work of coordination with the decentralized services of the State.
  • Ensure the effective exchange of information, technical support, and advocacy within the framework of humanitarian education in Nigeria between JRS and other actors.
  • Write and share monthly quality activity reports with the National Head of Program.
  • Participate in identifying education needs in the field and new opportunities. S/he may be called upon as and when necessary to provide support JRS team in other locations.
  • Propose or develop useful frameworks for the evaluation of indicators regarding the impact of our projects on the quality of education in the camps.
  • Work closely with JRS M&E team and the operation teams to ensure quality program delivery and documentation of project results.

REQUIRED PROFILE

Qualification

  • Minimum of BSc/ HND in a relevant field, MSc/MBA is an added advantage

Experience and Skills

  • Good knowledge of MS office.
  • Exceptional reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in stressful locations.
  • Traceable references of previous employers

Qualities

  • Adhere to JRS values and abide by the code of conduct and other policies.
  • Proficient command of the English language (written and oral).
  • Knowledge of the local Nigerian Language is desired
  • Proven work experience in multicultural and stressful environments.
  • Ability to adapt to working conditions and tasks that may change with the reality of the field.
