ABOUT ABA ROLI
The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is a nonprofit organization that implements legal reform programs. ABA ROLI has worked for over 25 years, in over 100 countries, to promote the rule of law and human rights, strengthen judicial institutions, support legal professionals, and foster civic awareness for a better understanding of the law and citizens’ rights.
ABA ROLI’s work in Africa encompasses various programs on the rule of law, access to justice, atrocity prevention, and the protection and promotion of human rights. ABA ROLI’s Africa division has offices across the continent, including in Angola, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambia, Liberia, Sudan, and Uganda.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct project personnel and other authorized persons in a safe, secure and reliable manner.
- Respect the highway code and ABA rules on driving in Goma, DRC.
- Daily inspection of the condition of project vehicles. Ensure that oils, water, battery, brakes and tires meet operating standards. Ensure proper maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, including service requests.
- Record all trips, daily mileage, gas mileage and oil changes on an official form.
- Ensure the safety of the project vehicle.
- Ensure that immediate action is taken in the event of an accident.
- Report relevant contextual updates to the security team.
- Pick-up and drop-off of official personnel to and from the airport during working hours and outside working hours.
- Deliver and collect mail and other materials as required, ensuring all deliveries and collections are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in the execution of assigned tasks and the logistical support provided.
- Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Active driving license in the DRC
- 5 years minimum experience as a professional driver
- Clean criminal record
- In-depth knowledge of roads and networks around Goma, respectively.
- Knowledge of basic first aid
- Knowledge of the security situation in the respective regions of Goma
- Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations in the different regions of the DRC
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic repairs
- Proficiency in French; basic knowledge of English desired
