JONAPWD is an umbrella organization of persons with disability established in Nigeria to promote the rights and development of Nigerians with disabilities. The organization was established in 1992, to represent the interests of the teeming population of persons with disabilities at the local and international level. JONAPWD is a full-fledged member of the International body called Disabled People’s International (DPI). It serves as a link between Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Nigeria and the international community. JONAPWD is currently composed of six disabled groups which are the Blind, the physically disabled, the deaf, the intellectually impaired, those with spinal cord injuries, and leprosy victims. Though recognised by the Federal government, JONAPWD is not funded by the Government, rather its activities are funded by partner organizations like IFES, PACT, USAID, AAIN and Coalitions for Change (C4C), among other local and international organizations. Essential Requirements

  • University Degree in a relevant Social Sciences field
  • Minimum of three (3) years specific professional experience working in the area of disability inclusion
  • Basic understanding of the humanitarian (coordination) system and humanitarian agencies
  • Baisc understanding on the rights of persons with disabilities and challenges in the humanitarian and development context and relevant international frameworks (UNCRPD, CBR Guidelines, etc.)
  • Proven skills to plan and facilitate workshops, advocacy meetings, etc.

Overall Mission

In close cooperation with the CBM International Country Office and the CBM Regional Humanitarian Capacity Building Coordinator, the incumbent assumes responsibility for strengthening disability inclusion in the humanitarian systems and concrete humanitarian programming n Cameroon/Nigeria. This includes advocating for the mainstreaming of disability into UN organisations, governmental agencies, INGOs and NGOs (leading assessments and inclusion audits and training humanitarian actor in the target area on disability inclusion). In addition, he/she shall become a national resource person for disability inclusive humanitarian action.

Main Activities

Capacity Development, Knowledge Management and Training:

  • Support humanitarian stakeholders to assess their organizational disability inclusion capacities.
  • Strengthen key stakeholders to ensure disability inclusive program planning and implementation through training and advisory.
  • Provide systematic follow-up to ensure learning gained in trainings is applied in practice.
  • Being involved in relevant humanitarian coordination for a (such a cluster meetings)
  • Monitor and document evidence of disability inclusion in humanitarian action
  • Support CBM Country Office to formalize partnerships and increase communication with (OPDs).
  • Document lessons learnt and good practices on inclusion

Advocacy and Partnerships

  • Advocate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including the governments on disability inclusive development and disability mainstreaming, alongside with OPDs.
  • Participate in the relevant humanitarian coordination platform meetings
  • Contribute to the development/review of humanitarian plans eg HRP

Reporting:

  • Monitoring / progress reporting according to donor requirements
  • Prepare project briefs, reports and presentations as required
