INTERSOS is an independent, no-profit organization which, through its own humanitarian operators, intervenes to effectively answer the needs of people in serious crises situations, mainly in the world’s poorest regions, who are suffering, deprived of rights, dignity and essentials goods. It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralised offices. The statutory bodies of INTERSOS, are: the Members Assembly, the Council, the Society for Auditing and Certification of Accounts. Intersos, established in 1992, is recognised by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the principal UN agencies; it is privileged to hold an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). General Purpose of the Position
The Manager will be based in Maiduguri, Borno State, with frequent field trips. S/he will coordinate and supervise the implementation of INTERSOS’s medical activities and ensures the delivery of quality medical care for patients and their communities. The role holder disseminates information, provides technical support to management and staff, and performs administrative functions on medical-related matters.

Tasks and Main Responsibilities
Project Management

  • In-charge of management of all aspects of; Primary Health Care and Nutrition components in the project areas accordance with organizational policy and procedures.
  • Conduct regular meetings/briefings with field teams to ensure efficient and effective implementation of project activities.
  • Assess the need for resources; Medical and Non-medical, required for implementation of project activities and prepare the necessary orders in a timely manner.
  • Identify and address obstacles to timely and efficient implementation of project activities.
  • Keep up-to-date and report on relevant situations in the project area as they develop.
  • Conduct annual individual reviews of medical staffs under his/her responsibility and delegate the responsibility for carrying out reviews of other personnel.

Technical Supervision

  • Ensure all relevant up-to-date technical guidelines are being followed in project activities.
  • Ensure highest quality of integrated medical and nutritional services with regular monitoring of project sites.
  • Regularly assess the skills of team members and provide on job facilitation/capacity building.
  • Improve or recommend technical tools for better project outcomes.
  • Refer to the Deputy Medical Coordinator for coordination on decision making.

Reports

  • Refer to the Deputy Medical Coordinator for coordination on decision making.
  • Ensure credible data collection and compilation on the project indicators.
  • Be able to assess and analyse the factors affecting project indicators through individual observations and discussions with team members.
  • Provide relevant feedback to supervisors accordingly.
  • Update the project databases regularly.

Coordination

  • Be well-informed and up-to-date on all aspects of relevant Intersos project activities
  • Represent Intersos in the project area and engage with relevant stakeholders; government, non-government.
  • Participate in meetings and coordinate with fellow managers in order to ensure smooth collaboration among all departments.
  • Be willing to engage with community members regularly to receive their feedback and discuss their concerns.

Position Requirements

Professional requirements

  • University Degree in Public Health or relevant discipline. Advanced university degree in medicine or other paramedical studies. Desirable specialization in Tropical Medicine or a degree in Public Health an advantage.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience as medical referent in the humanitarian sector especially in fragile and unstable environments

Personal requirements

  • Strong motivation and adherence to the humanitarian principles and the mission of INTERSOS
  • Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, etc…)
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel, and internet)
  • Demonstrate experience with different donors’ compliance and reporting
  • Leadership, people management, and development, teamwork and cooperation
  • Strategic Vision and Service Orientation
  • Understanding of humanitarian operations principles, standards, and best practices
