Position Title: Data Clerk, Bauchi

Reports Administratively in Bauchi to/Position Title: NI State Coordinator, Bauchi
Position term: 6 Months
Date revised: June 12, 2025

The introduction of multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) offers a timely opportunity to accelerate progress toward national and state nutrition and health objectives. Recognizing this potential, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoHSW) has expressed its interest in introducing MMS and has requested implementation evidence in the Nigerian context.

Under the Optimizing Adherence for Maternal MMS in Nigeria project, NI collaborated with FMoHSW, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and Bauchi State authorities, including the State Ministry of Health (SMoH), the State Primary Health Care Development Board (SPHCDB), and the Hospital Management Board (HMB) – to pilot MMS across 84 primary health care facilities in Dass, Giade, and Ganjuwa LGAs in Bauchi State. Human-centered implementation research was employed to design and test strategies aimed at improving uptake and adherence to MMS among pregnant women in Bauchi State.
During the project’s early phase, the implementation landscape in Bauchi State was mapped and context-appropriate materials and interventions were developed to support adherence. To embed MMS within the public health system’s antenatal care (ANC) services, training manuals and job aids were created in collaboration with FMoH&SW, NPHCDA, and the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board. These resources were subsequently adapted by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in the development of the National MMS Training Manual for Health Workers in Nigeria.
Building on these successes, NI will maintain support to the Bauchi State Government in scaling up MMS, ensuring that lessons learned inform national policy and programmatic strategies across Nigeria.
