Overview of CPPLI

Child Protection and Peer Learning Initiative (CPPLI) is a human-centered social development not-for-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian National Non-Governmental Organization (NNGO) that was established and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in June 2010 with the sole aim of ensuring that less privilege and vulnerable children (particularly girls) and women as well as populations affected by humanitarian emergencies have access and attain a quality life and education through building sustainable partnership with government agencies, UN-agencies, communities, individuals and other stakeholders in obtaining mechanisms and resources to achieve its aim and focus. The organization thematically focuses on Protection, Health, Nutrition, Education and Governance. Being a national and local organization, CPPLI is geographically operating in the Northeast Nigeria with tremendous technical expertise of working in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe (BAY) states due to its well understanding of the cultural dynamics and change in context of the communities in the BAY states. 

CPPLI stand against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).

CPPLI has a zero-tolerance policy with regard to SEA by her personnel. All forms of sexual exploitation and abuse are incompatible with the universally accepted norms, values, principles and standards that underpin CPPLI. Protection from SEA is the responsibility of everyone and all selected candidates will be required to comply with the CPPLI’s PSEA Policy at all times. Selected candidates will therefore undergo rigorous reference and background checks against their past behavior related to sexual exploitation and abuse, and may be required to provide additional information further on in the selection process

Objectives of CP caseworker

The objective of this recruitment is to engage qualified candidates with relevant experience and knowledge in provision of quality case management and psychosocial support services thereby reinforcing the human resource to provide better result and outcomes.

PURPOSE

The Child Protection Caseworker will conduct all steps of case management process on Unaccompanied and Separated Children and other children at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence including children who are formerly associated with armed forces and/or armed groups as well as children with disabilities. Case management services most meet the IASC guidelines and is in line with the Child Protection Minimum Standard (CPMS).

Major Responsibilities of CP Caseworkers                                                                    

In collaboration with other colleagues of the NHF funded Child Protection project in CPPLI, the caseworker will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide individual comprehensive case management for children in relation to all case management steps, tools and procedures.
  • Liaise with community volunteers for purposes of follow-up as part of case management to individual child. 
  • Use the CPISM+ and the IASC revised case management toolkits in documentation of children information.  
  • Provide support for families, foster and alternative care arrangements.
  • Support Family Tracing and Reunification for Unaccompanied Children.
  • Ensure regular communication with the Child Protection Officer, case management office, M&E officer and CPIMS+ officer for updates on achievements and challenges.
  • Effectively communicate with other caseworkers, government social workers and other service providers for inter-sectoral referral services.
  • Regularly attend field-level coordination meetings and monthly case management review meetings at the office.
  • Ensure that child-centered approach guiding principles is maintained and enforced while working with vulnerable children including Child Friendly Space for boys and girls.
  • Work closely with the communities to develop weekly risk assessment of field activities and share with the case management officer officer.
  • Contribute within the CFS to the identification of at-risk girls and boys, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Ensure Do No Harm is observed and upheld in all the engagement of the caseworker.
  • Organize regular case conference to address challenging cases and ensure survivors receive quality services and with dignity.
  • Adhere to safeguarding measures in all engagement with children, young adults and the community members.
  • Ensure at all times the safety, dignity and confidentiality of the child and his/her information.
  • Submit weekly and monthly activities reports to the supervisor.

Carryout any other activity as may be assigned by the supervisor

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of a University Degree, HND, ND, OND or NCE in related field.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent ability in computer skills especially Microsoft applications.
  • Good understanding of CPIMS+ Primero application
  • Having strong understanding of child protection in emergency (CPiE) programming.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent English language writing and speaking skills.
  • Fluency in Local Language is mandatory.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others colleagues
  • Ability to organize ideas in a logical and structured manner.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Roles and Responsibilities of CFS Supervisors

CFS are members of the project community identified/selected and strengthened to support CPPLI in service delivery. The primary role of this group will be:

  • Supervised the volunteers on all child protection activities in the community.
  • He ensures accurate filling of all MoVs related to their roles e.g. sensitization, life skills etc.
  • Facilitate context appropriate PSS activities child friendly space activity
  • Fill enrollment form and daily register of the children in the CFS center
  • Conduct life skills education to adolescents’ girls and boys
  • Fill safeguarding risk assessment template
  • To support community mobilization, sensitization awareness raising and engagement, support activities in identification of UASC, GBV concerns and other children at risk for case management.
  • Facilitate positive parenting sessions for caregivers and foster parents
  • Provide community safety nets for vulnerable children for the purpose of project sustainability.
  • Conduct awareness raising on CP and GBV concerns in the community.
  • Attend training and other capacity building organized by CPPLI.
  • Support regular participatory activities with different groups of children to identify issues affecting children in their communities, assist the team to develop appropriate responses.
  • Ensure that equipment inventories are up to date and that replacement needs are highlighted.
  • Support in sensitization and awareness raising activities on prevailing child protection and GBV issues in the communities.
  • Attend weekly meetings with caseworkers
  • Any activities assigned by case workers and management of CPPLI

EDUCATION

  • A minimum of a secondary school completion certificate with 2 years of professional experience preferably in protection related field or
  • Higher education certificate with 1 year of professional experience preferably in protection related field.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

  • Fluency in the native language of the community.
  •  Been a primary school teacher is an added advantage.
  • Good writing skill.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  •  Having no any record of abusing children or sexual exploitation and abuse in the community.
