Background
The GEF Consortium, led by TRAHI, is committed to addressing the health challenges faced by
marginalized populations, particularly trans-women, LBQ women, and female sex workers. Despite
efforts to improve healthcare access, these groups remain disproportionately affected by stigma,
discrimination, and health disparities. HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), and Malaria continue to pose significant
threats, exacerbated by socio-cultural barriers and policy gaps. To inform evidence-based advocacy and
programming, the GEF Consortium seeks a skilled consultant to conduct in-depth research on the
specific health needs, service gaps, and challenges experienced by these populations within Lagos and
Ogun State. This research will provide essential insights into their access to HIV, TB, and Malaria services,
identifying critical areas for policy reform and service delivery improvements. The findings will drive
targeted advocacy and inform programming that reduces barriers to HIV, TB, and Malaria services.
Scope of Work
The consultant will:
- Design and conduct a research study focused on the specific health needs of trans-women, LBQ
women, and female sex workers, with an emphasis on HIV, TB, and Malaria. - Develop research tools and methodologies (including surveys, interviews, or focus group discussions)
that are culturally appropriate and inclusive. - Engage stakeholders and key informants, including healthcare providers, NGOs, and community
members, to collect qualitative and quantitative data. - Analyze findings to identify patterns, service gaps, and challenges in healthcare access.
- Prepare a comprehensive research report with actionable recommendations for improving healthcare
services and policy interventions. - Present findings at stakeholder meetings to promote dialogue and advocacy.
Deliverables
- Research Protocol and Tools: Detailed plan of methodologies and instruments for data collection.
- Stakeholder Engagement Report: Summary of consultations and interviews conducted.
- Comprehensive Research Report: detailing the health needs, gaps, and challenges, with key
recommendations. - Presentation Materials: Slide decks or fact sheets for sharing findings with stakeholders.
Key Qualifications - Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, or related fields.
- Proven experience in conducting research with marginalized communities, particularly in health-related
contexts. - Demonstrated knowledge of HIV, TB, and Malaria interventions and challenges.
- Strong understanding of gender-sensitive research methods and ethical considerations.
- Ability to engage stakeholders from various sectors and develop actionable insights from data.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Timeline
The consultancy is expected to start in November 2024 and conclude by December 2024, with the final
report and presentation delivered by the end of the engagement.
