Eligibility Criteria
The Community Health Incubator is open to individuals and organizations that meet the following criteria:
- Type of Applicants:
- Social entrepreneurs with innovative solutions in the health sector.
- Early-stage startups, nonprofits, or organizations focused on community health.
- Individuals or teams with ideas to address critical public health issues such as:
- Healthcare access and affordability
- Health literacy and education
- Disease prevention and management
- Mental health and wellness
- Countries Eligible:
- Entrepreneurs from all countries are welcome to apply.
- Education Level:
- No specific educational background is required. However, applicants should have a strong understanding of the health issue they aim to address and a demonstrated passion for solving that problem.
- Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must have a clear idea or business model related to public health improvement, though the project or venture does not need to be fully operational yet.
- Priority is given to businesses that can quickly collaborate with VOA Affiliates in California, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, or Texas. Key focus areas include solutions aimed at supporting seniors, veterans, youth, the unhoused, and those working in mental and behavioral health.
Program Details
The Community Health Incubator provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning and mentorship experience. Key program details are as follows:
- Duration: 12 weeks
- Program Structure:
- Week 1-4: Introduction to the incubator, foundational health and business workshops, one-on-one mentorship.
- Week 5-8: Refining business models, market research, legal considerations, fundraising strategy.
- Week 9-12: Pitch preparation, investor engagement, final project showcase.
- Location: The program is remote and can be accessed globally. Some in-person sessions may be held depending on public health regulations and participant location.
- Fees:
- The program is free of charge for selected participants.
- Applicants may be responsible for any costs associated with travel or in-person participation if applicable.
What you can gain from this program?
- Business Skills:
Participants will test, pilot, and scale their ventures through interactive workshops and personalized mentorship from health industry experts and business leaders. - Partnerships:
Ventures will be introduced to potential partners from the Humana Foundation and the Volunteers of America (VOA) network. Founders will receive guidance through the partnership development and scoping process. - Funding:
- A $15,000 non-dilutive capacity grant is provided for participation in the Incubator.
- An additional $10,000 is available for implementation pilots with VOA Affiliates.
- Graduates are eligible for follow-on investments of up to $200,000.
- Showcase:
All ventures will have the opportunity to pitch their companies during the final Showcase, with potential chances to present to various affinity groups during and after the program who may be interested in their product or service.
