Shiktra Maternal, Newborn and Child Healthcare (SMaNCH) Foundation is an indigenous non-profit organization operating in Southern Borno state Nigeria.  Our mission is to provide life-saving medical care to women of child bearing age and population in most need, build the capacity of community healthcare workers, promote awareness, access and availability of skilled birth attendants across Northeast Nigeria

Vision: We envision a world where no woman should die while pregnant or giving childbirth due to lack of access to life-saving medical care including access to Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn care (BEmONC) and Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (CEmONC).

Job Title: Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW)

Location: Hawul LGA, Borno state

Slot: 4 Openings (1 volunteer position)

Contract: Fixed term contract and Working hours according to Nigerian law

Job Description

Assist midwives and parents during the birthing process

Include and talk to family members during the birth process.

Assess mothers and neonates and complete vital signs on both.

Monitor contractions and neonate heart rates.

Educate parents during the post-partum period regarding what to expect with the mother’s body and infant care.

Educate and help with breastfeeding.

Complete home visits to patients.

Help midwives regarding patient care.

Ensure educating patients on family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, nutrition and other relevant health topics.

Requirements

 Basic qualification from a recognized college of Health Technology (CHEWs certification)

Additional professional training is an added advantage.

2 years of clinical management experience is required.

Registration and current license with relevant professional regulatory board in Nigeria.

Other Requirements:

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

Ability to communicate well in any of the local languages in addition to English.
