As part of our commitment to improving health and nutrition outcomes, we are recruiting a motivated and experienced Community Health Extension Worker CHEW to support our field operations in Maiduguri, Magumeri, and Mare.

Job Vacancy: Community Health Extension Worker CHEW
Location: Magumeri and Marte, Borno State 6 Position
Organization: Five Teams Empowerment Initiative (5TEi)

Employment Type: Contract, 6 months extendable

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct community mobilization and sensitization on nutrition and hygiene practices.
  • Identify, screen, and refer malnourished children and PLWs using MUAC and other tools.
  • Implement IYCF counseling, follow-ups, and group education sessions.
  • Support CMAM programs by conducting appetite tests and follow-up visits.
  • Record and report daily activities using standard tools and reporting templates.
  • Support data collection and maintain accurate records for monitoring and evaluation.
  • Promote exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices.
  • Refer complicated SAM/MAM cases to stabilization centers or health facilities.
  • Participate in health and nutrition outreach activities and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, women’s groups, and health workers to strengthen nutrition messaging.
  • Ensure adherence to program protocols and national nutrition guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding principles at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate in Community Health Extension Work (CHEW) or related health field with a practicing valid license.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience working on community health or nutrition programs (IYCF, CMAM, etc.).
  • Candidate must be Marte or Magumeri resident.
  • Knowledge of community-level screening, referral systems, and health promotion.
  • Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri is essential; good written/spoken English is an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience with NGOs or humanitarian agencies is an added advantage.
