RESTORATION OF HOPE INITIATIVE

Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI) is a national Non-Governmental Organization based in Yola with a field office in Maiduguri Borno State. 

ROHI having operational presence at some of the hard-to-reach LGAs of Borno State is being funded through collaborations with other international NGOs and through UN based Funding.  ROHI is currently seeking qualified candidates for the positions of:

COMMUNICATION AND ADVOCACY / SAFEGUARDING OFFICER                 

  • The position will oversee the production of key and high quality offline and online multimedia communications resources that secure coverage in support of ROHI’s emergency work.
  • This will help raise the profile of ROHI’s work nationally and internationally, in support of advocacy and fundraising goals while positioning ROHI to interact with key audiences and stakeholders to promote the respect for children rights and welfare.

Other Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy and operating plan aligned to organizational priorities for outreach, income and impact.
  • Build and manage a high-performance communications function that is structured, focused and staffed for productive and quality work.
  • Monitor the context for challenges, risks, threats and opportunities related to the emergency context that may impact communications and public engagement approaches, messaging and operations
  • Ensure ROHI’s rights- based programming approach and child protection policy are appropriately reflected in the emergency communication strategy, work plan and products.
  • Ensure brand visibility, adherence to procedures, protocols and policies. • Monitor and evaluate the impact of our communications work
  • Donor/Public Engagement Communications Management:
  • Gather internal knowledge and transform it into a range of compelling human interest child- focused content such as: case studies, eyewitness accounts, first person account, images, audio, and video for public dissemination.
  • Develop and deliver a staff engagement Communications strategy to ensure staff and volunteers of ROHI and the partnership at large are informed and engaged with the organizations work.
  • Work closely with the program manager in defining key issues, messaging, and identifying appropriate communications channels for public advocacy initiatives.
  • Develop and facilitate community-level Communications for Development (C4D) programming, together with appropriate project staff and community members. 

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • To create an environment in which beneficiaries especially Children and staff feel safe and protected. 
  • Minimize the risk of harm to Children and address concerns about the welfare of Children.
  • Identify and respond to children who may be suffering significant harm and take appropriate actions. 
  • Ensuring staff and partners adhere to PSEA and safeguarding policies in discharging their duties across all ROHI’s project locations. 
  • Promoting positive safeguarding procedures and practice within ROHI 
  • Overseeing receipt of information and offering advice about safeguarding concerns, maintaining secured records.
  • Ensure that all staff are trained and are familiar with the national and local safeguarding guidance and referral procedures.
  • Keeping staff, volunteers and partners informed of good practice and development in regard to safeguarding.
  • Identify instances where there are grounds for concern about children safety or wellbeing and initiate actions to keep them safe.
  • Contribute to effective advocacy and partnership with all those involved in providing services for all children.
  • Ensure there is effective monitoring and reporting of all safeguarding and other protection concerns 
  • Effectively deal with allegations of abuse against children and staff members, whilst protecting staff from malicious complaints. 
  • Respect the rights of children to make decisions about their own safety and wellbeing unless this is in conflict with ROHI’s statutory duties  
  • Prepare reports that outline Safeguarding incidents and Action plans.

Qualifications and Experiences:

  • A First degree in Mass Communications and Communication for development
  • At least 2 years’ experience working on communications or media for NGO or in journalism especially in emergency settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate complicated and technical issues in a concise and clear way, to a wide range of target audiences
  • Demonstrated experience of the key responsibilities, including working with media, delivering Communications strategies, managing internal communications, knowledge of digital media, and creating networks
  • A track record of achieving results and strategic impact on communications and media and in building capacity for teams to deliver
  • Must show demonstrable impact in using communications as a tool for social change
  • Sound political judgement and risk management
  • Strong understanding of the international humanitarian community, preferably experience working with/in coalitions of other NGOs.
  • Demonstrated and considerable experience of working with international media, communications or public relations roles
  • Fluency in English and Hausa language
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, including ability to find, absorb, analyses and priorities information from many different sources, and proven experience of strategy development
  • Ability to work in a volatile and, at times, insecure environment, under pressure, to tight deadlines, with competing priorities and minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel – sometimes at short notice
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work in multi-national, multi-cultural teams • Computer literate and well versed in basic software (Word, Internet Explorer, Excel, etc).
  • Excellent online content development and online engagements in social media.
