Grow Strong foundation (GSF) is a grass root National Non-Governmental organisation Co-lead for the Child Protection Sub sector (INGO Co-Lead for the CPSS) In collaboration with UNICEF Nigeria and the Global CP AoR. GSF organization is seeking for a qualified hand to handle person for the vacant position.

Reporting: To Program Manager

Contract length: 6-month probation period with possibility of extention

Monthly Salary: From N300,000 

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the guidance of the Child Protection Sub-Sector NGO  Co-lead, the NGO co-lead is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the Child Protection Sub-Sector members to enable child protection partners to respond effectively to the protection needs of the children affected by the conflict in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guided by the Principles of Partnership and working together with the MWASD and the CPSS Coordinator (UNICEF), the responsibilities of the NGO co-lead will be to:

  • Support coordination efforts to provide guidance to child protection actors to ensure that service delivery is driven by the Sub-Sector’s and inter-sectoral strategies, priorities and response plans.
  • Support the convening of regular Sub-Sector forums for consultative identification of (emerging) needs, gaps and challenges and formulation of priorities and solutions, with emphasis on LGA-level-coordination and ensure child protection needs and priorities are reflected in inter-sectoral forums and reports.
  • Strengthening the Sub-Sector’s mechanisms to eliminate duplication of service delivery and to enhance complementarity including developing and review of referral pathways.
  • Dissemination of tools, guidance notes and promote practice that ensures integration/implementation of child protection minimum standards and humanitarian principles.
  • Monitor the situational context and other pertinent operational trends and dynamics to ensure adaptiveness and responsiveness of the child protection response and to inform decision-making and prioritization.
  • Co-coordinate needs assessments, analysis of gaps and Sub-Sector-related performance monitoring to inform prioritization.
  • Contribute to regular and ad hoc analytical reporting and advocacy to highlight (emerging) needs, priorities and achievements of the Sub-Sector.
  • Support Technical Working Groups (TWG) to ensure execution of assigned mandates and requisite contributions by the TWG members.
  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities and support implementation of initiatives for capacity development including providing technical guidance on core child protection in humanitarian action thematic areas for national NGOs.
  • Support the representation of the Sub-Sector in inter-sectoral forums.
  • Undertake other roles and responsibilities in line with the CPSS Terms of Reference as agreed on with the MWASD and the CPSS Coordinator.

REPORTING:

Administrative Reporting: The NGO Co-Lead will report to the Program manager, Grow Strong Foundation.

Technical Reporting: The NGO Co-Lead will report to Executive Director, Grow Strong Foundation and the Child Protection Sub-Sector Coordinator.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, anthropology, community development, development studies or similar/related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in child protection in the humanitarian response in north-east Nigeria.
  • Previous experience in emergency response coordination is an asset.
  • Good communicator with strong interpersonal, time management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities, make timely decisions and work under pressure in an insecure environment
  • Fluency in English, spoken and written. Willingness to travel to the field level.
  • Commitment to promoting the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action and IASC’s Principles of Partnership.

Child Safeguarding:

The role of the CPSS NGO Co-lead will involve contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) and the NGO Co-lead and will be expected to abide by the child protection and NGO co-lead organization’s child safeguarding measures.
