About CAARI
The Climate Awareness Advocacy and Resilience Initiative (CAARI) is a grassroots nonprofit organization working at the intersection of climate justice, gender equity, and community resilience. We recognize that climate-induced crises—such as flooding, drought, and displacement—disproportionately impact women and children, increasing the risks of gender-based violence (GBV), child exploitation, and forced migration. In response, CAARI integrates Child Protection and GBV prevention into its climate adaptation and humanitarian efforts.
Role Overview
CAARI is seeking a passionate and experienced Volunteer Child Protection & GBV Team Lead to drive the design, coordination, and delivery of protection programming within the broader framework of our climate resilience work. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in social work, gender justice, or protection programming who want to make a lasting impact at the community level.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the development and implementation of CAARI’s Child Protection and GBV components within climate resilience projects.
- Create strategies to mitigate risks such as child marriage, human trafficking, and domestic violence, particularly in disaster-affected and displacement-prone areas.
2. Community Engagement & Capacity Building
- Train local volunteers, educators, and community leaders on child safeguarding, GBV prevention, and referral mechanisms.
- Conduct empowerment workshops with women’s groups and youth on climate-resilient livelihoods and protection issues.
3. Advocacy & Partnerships
- Advocate for the integration of child- and gender-sensitive priorities in local and national climate policies.
- Build partnerships with schools, health centers, legal aid providers, and NGOs to strengthen referral systems and protection services.
4. Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain confidential case records and monitor protection trends linked to climate-related vulnerabilities.
- Support reporting to donors, highlighting project outcomes, field challenges, and lessons learned.
Qualifications & Competencies
- A degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Psychology, or a related field (final-year students and early-career professionals are welcome).
- Minimum of three years of experience in child protection, GBV programming, or humanitarian work (volunteer roles also count).
- Understanding of how climate change intersects with protection risks.
- Strong facilitation, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across diverse, often fragile, communities.
- Fluency in English and local languages is an advantage. A trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach is essential.
