Job Title: CFM/Protection Monitor

Location: Borno

General Context of the Job/Project:

CFM/Protection Monitors responsible in overseeing and assessing the safety and well-being of individuals, particularly in humanitarian or security settings. Will monitor and report potential risks, ensure adherence to protection protocols, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to safeguard vulnerable populations.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and assess the safety and well-being of individuals, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and other vulnerable populations, in humanitarian or security settings.
2. Monitor and report on potential risks, threats, and protection concerns affecting the targeted population, including gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, family separation, and other relevant issues.
3. Ensure adherence to protection protocols, standards, and best practices in all activities and interactions with beneficiaries, respecting confidentiality, dignity, and rights.
4. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including humanitarian agencies, government authorities, community leaders, and protection actors, to coordinate responses and address identified protection needs.
5. Conduct regular assessments and surveys to identify protection gaps, vulnerabilities, and service gaps, using standardized tools and methodologies.
6. Identify and respond to cases that require support or intervention, including referrals to appropriate service providers and follow-up to ensure timely and appropriate assistance.
7. Advocate for the rights and security of vulnerable populations, including advocating for access to essential services, legal protection, and psychosocial support.
8. Provide information, guidance, and support to individuals and families on available services, rights, and entitlements, promoting awareness and empowerment.
9. Maintain accurate records and documentation of protection activities, including case management files, incident reports, and other relevant data.
10. Uphold SHO’s principles and values in all interactions and activities, promoting dignity, respect, and empowerment for affected populations.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

1. High school diploma or equivalent qualification required. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in protection, GBV, child protection, or related fields, preferably in humanitarian or security settings.
• Strong understanding of protection principles, standards, and best practices in humanitarian contexts, with knowledge of relevant international legal frameworks and guidelines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations, including vulnerable individuals and marginalized groups.
• Ability to conduct assessments, collect and analyze data, and document information accurately and confidentially.
• Familiarity with community-based protection mechanisms, referral pathways, and coordination mechanisms, with experience working in protection monitoring preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in local languages spoken in Borno state is highly desirable. Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required.
