About Us: The Yaharakari Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation (YWYEF) was established in 2013 with the aim of promoting the welfare of underprivileged women and youth. Our organization focuses on charitable work that benefits women and youth, providing scholarships, gender equality, peace, justice and various forms of support to those in need.

Background

Human migration within and outside countries has been a global concern, particularly migration resulting from conflicts and other humanitarian crises. The rising number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in Nigeria, especially in the North-East region of the country, is a consequence of prolonged insurgencies and has significantly altered the sociocultural milieu of the area. The displacement has negative effects on both the displaced people and their host communities, thereby negatively impacting the social cohesion of the people. The difficulties experienced by the displaced persons to adapt to the unfamiliar environment due to the lack of basic support needed, as well as the host community’s perception of IDPs as a threat due to limited resources to accommodate the new entrants, often snowball into subtle crises. This increases the incidence of violent crises and the volatility of the already tense environment.

Likewise, the poor adaptation and receptivity of host communities often lead to the breakdown of social cohesion within the communities. These community-based challenges are further worsened by the nonexistence of a government plan or a structure for proper community integration of displaced individuals, particularly at the state and local government levels. Gender differential effects of displacements and lack of social cohesion have especially been observed as women, children, and people with disabilities become even more disadvantaged, thereby increasing their vulnerability. Hence, there is a need for a local and comprehensive integrative

approach to bring all members of the community on a path towards sustainable growth with the active involvement of the communities concerned.

YWYEF in partnership with Oxfam and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-funded by the European Union are implementing a twenty-four (24) month project to establish a local but comprehensive integrational approach to bring all members of the community on the path of sustainable growth with the active involvement of the communities concerned and relevant government and non-governmental structures in Biu LGA. The general objective of the project is to increase citizens’ participation and strengthen social cohesion through the delivery of community-driven development interventions in 11 wards of Biu LGA in Borno State. The specific objective of the project includes:

• To improve participatory engagement and planning between local communities and government stakeholders towards improved service delivery.
• To strengthen social cohesion through capacity building of stakeholders on inclusive planning, implementation, and monitoring of community development plans.

Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Development Project Facilitator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community engagement, project management, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders. This role involves facilitating community development initiatives, empowering local residents, and fostering sustainable solutions that enhance the quality of life in our community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Arrive to the venue not less than one hour before the CDP Session begins, prepare, setup the venue of the workshop, support the YWYEF Staff with registration process and create a conducive learning environment for the participants.

• Follow the Facilitators Guide step by step and ensure adequate prior preparations for each Module before undertaking any Module and present primary materials of your preparations to the Project Team prior to handling the assigned module.
  • Prepare for each and every Module and make yourself Available when assigned or when changes are made.
  • Provide quality output; demonstrated through the quality of facilitation and the outputs / outcomes of the Modules assigned to you.
  • As a Facilitators; support other Facilitators/ Co-Facilitators with oral translations as needed to ensure clarity of information being relayed to the participant, support each other in areas of limited demonstration of technical knowledge of the Facilitators guide/ manual
  • Ensure the participants understand the content of the messages and that feedback from the participants is shared with other Facilitators
  • Assist in making arrangements for the working groups/ breakout points ahead of the activity. During the working group sessions; assist in co-facilitation, providing clarity, enabling free flow mutual support, regulating the discussions for balanced and inclusive participation, ensuring the participants keep in track with the intended assignment and output that is required.
  • Support the participants during plenary sessions in ushering them in and having their materials well labelled and displayed for their presentation
  • Be responsible for distribution, displaying workshop materials including pasting, capturing the views of the participants and ensuring proper recording.
  • Capturing ideas from the group work; discussions, arguments, views of participant to put up reports
  • Help in managing time during group work/meeting
  • At the end of each session/ workgroup session evaluate the understanding of participant on the presentation and groups works

• Compute a daily report and submit before start of the next day and also compile a final general report on the CDP Sessions per Ward. All submitted reports Must be in electronic soft copy
  • Properly label and submit all recorded materials and photographs taken to YWYF for onward compiling and submission
  • Conflict sensitivity and Gender equal opportunities must be observed by every Facilitator, and demonstrated in practice including in your reporting.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Work, Public Administration, or a

related field (Master’s degree is a plus).

• Proven experience in community development, project management, or facilitation roles.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
• Knowledge of community development principles, strategies, and best practices.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

• Proficiency in data collection and evaluation methods.

• Willingness to travel within the community and occasionally outside the area for project- related activities.
