Job Purpose:
The Agriculture Assistant will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of STaR project agricultural activities aimed at improving food security, livelihoods, and resilience of target communities Mubi North, Gombi, Girei and Hong LGAs of Adamawa State. The role involves working directly with farmers, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agricultural practices, improved productivity, and access to inputs and markets.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of agriculture-related activities, including training, demonstration plots, input distribution, and field follow-up.
- Assist in mobilizing and sensitizing communities about agricultural interventions.
- Provide technical support and advisory services to smallholder farmers on crop production, pest and disease control, soil fertility, post-harvest handling, and climate-smart agriculture techniques.
- Help establish and monitor Farmer Field Schools (FFS), cooperatives, and farmer groups.
- Facilitate the collection and documentation of field data, success stories, and lessons learned.
- Monitor and report on agricultural activity progress, challenges, and opportunities.
- Distribute agricultural inputs and tools while ensuring accountability and proper documentation.
- Liaise with local agricultural extension officers, traditional leaders, and relevant stakeholders to coordinate field activities.
- Promote sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation practices.
- Support emergency response or resilience-building initiatives such as seed fairs, cash-for-work, or agro-enterprise development, if required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of field-level experience in community-based agricultural projects, preferably with an NGO.
- Knowledge of local farming systems, practices, and seasonal cycles.
- Experience in training or advising smallholder farmers.
- Good communication and community engagement skills.
- Knowledge of local language(s) and cultural context is an asset.
