In 1993, a group of passionate and concerned private sector leaders representing key economic sectors conceived the Nigerian Economic Summit (NES) and sustained it as a platform for bringing together private sector leaders and senior public sector officials to discuss and dialogue on the future of the Nigerian Economy. Three years later, in 1996, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) was established and incorporated as a non-profit, non-partisan private sector organisation with a mandate to promote and champion the reform of the Nigerian economy into an open, private sector-led globally competitive economy. Over the years, NESG has achieved significant progress in the areas of research outputs, execution of programmes, seminars, conferences and workshops aimed at facilitating the formulation and implementation of social and economic reform programmes for the growth and transformation of the Nigerian economy. NESG has emerged as the most notable platform for public-private dialogue in Nigeria. During this period, the Group has established an excellent working relationship with the Government of Nigeria, the public sector, private sector, and other stakeholders.

 Job Summary

  • We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Research to lead our Research & Development department.
  • The successful candidate will oversee the development and execution of our research strategy, ensuring that our research initiatives align with our organisational goals and contribute to our mandate to promote and champion the reform of the Nigerian economy into an open and globally competitive economy.
  • The NESG engages the Government, Private Sector, Public Sector and Civil Societies on key development issues and economic policies in Nigeria.

 Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy that aligns with the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Lead and inspire a team of researchers, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

Research Planning and Execution:

  • Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of research projects.
  • Ensure that research methodologies and processes are rigorous, ethical, and aligned with best practices.
  • Monitor progress and ensure the timely completion of research projects.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and interpretation to generate meaningful insights.
  • Prepare and present research findings to senior management, stakeholders, and external audiences.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity in all research outputs.

Collaboration and Networking:

  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including academic institutions, industry partners, and funding bodies.
  • Represent the company at conferences, workshops, and industry events.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate research findings into practice and policy.

Innovation and Improvement:

  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, research methodologies, and technological advancements.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the research team.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support research initiatives.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage the research department’s budget.
  • Allocate resources effectively to ensure the efficient operation of the research team.

 Competency and Skill Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of the Nigerian economic, political and social environment.
  • Awareness and understanding of local policies related to private sector businesses with an emphasis on the implication of policies on operations.

 Minimum Education and Work Experience

 The candidate must have:

  • A Ph.D. degree in Economics.
  • Proven experience in a senior research role, with a track record of successful research project management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with research methodologies, data analysis, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
