About CAARI
The Climate Awareness Advocacy and Resilience Initiative (CAARI) is a nonprofit organization committed to addressing climate change while promoting public health, gender equality, peacebuilding, and community resilience. We invite passionate individuals to volunteer and make real impacts in communities most affected by climate vulnerabilities.
Role Summary
As a Volunteer WASH in Climate Adaptation Officer, you will help integrate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) solutions into climate adaptation initiatives. You’ll contribute through research, outreach, and advocacy, helping communities adopt sustainable and resilient WASH practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research & Program Development
- Conduct research on climate-resilient WASH strategies and policies
- Support the development of community-based WASH adaptation projects
- Contribute to reports, proposals, and policy briefs
2. Community Engagement & Capacity Building
- Participate in field assessments of WASH needs
- Help organize trainings on rainwater harvesting, flood-proof sanitation, etc.
- Work with local leaders, NGOs, and government partners
3. Awareness & Advocacy
- Create educational content for flyers, social media, and outreach
- Assist with planning campaigns, workshops, and stakeholder events
- Advocate for strong WASH policies in climate programs
4. Monitoring & Reporting
- Support data collection and program evaluations
- Document case studies, lessons learned, and community stories
- Submit regular progress reports to the program team
5. Administrative & Logistical Support
- Assist with logistics for field and training activities
- Maintain project documentation and stakeholder records
- Carry out other tasks as assigned

- Increased community awareness of WASH and climate resilience
- Empowered local populations with practical adaptation skills
- Strengthened advocacy and partnerships
- Research and documentation to support CAARI’s climate mission
Volunteer Requirements
- Minimum of OND in Civil/Water Resources Engineering, WASH certification, or equivalent
- At least 3 years of experience in the WASH sector (preferably with NGOs)
- Passionate about climate change, sustainability, and public health
- Strong research, communication, and organizational skills
- Basic knowledge or experience in WASH/climate programs (training provided)
- Fluency in Hausa, Kanuri, or Fulfulde is desirable; English proficiency is an asset
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to Damaturu, Yobe State
- Practical experience in WASH and climate adaptation programs
- Access to a network of professionals and development partners
- Certificate of service and letter of recommendation upon successful completion
