Hope and Rural Aid Foundation (HARAF) is a National non – profit organization functioning since 2011 but was officially registered under the corporate affairs commission (CAC) of the federal government of Nigeria in the year 2016 with registration number RN: CAC/IT/:85536. HARAF are into humanitarian and development activities with full operational presence and offices in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe with field offices in Michika and Calabar. The head office in Yola. The organization works in the Food Security and Livelihood, Protection (Child Protection/GBV), Education and Shelter/CCCM Thematic areas.
HARAF plans to implement complimentary livelihoods activities particularly to introduce livelihoods interventions to build their capacity by contributing to their basic food needs and ultimately reduce the cost of life savings interventions over time. This will also provide opportunity to utilize the otherwise idle labour, mostly from youth who are caught in humanitarian crisis through Entrepreneurship, Livelihood Intervention Skills acquisition and Financial Literacy Training at selected communities of Yola South LGA, Adamawa state.

The VSLA assistant is responsible for the formation of income-generating and VSLA groups, training, mentoring and monitoring of these groups in the Nutrition, Livelihoods and Resilience project.
Specific Role
- Technically lead in mobilization and establishment of VSLA and IGA groups in the selected communities
- The role holder should be able to ensure coordination with partners, donors, government and other stakeholders in the implementation of the VSLA activities. Work closely with community structures to follow up on the implementation of livelihood activities and support in the implementation of capacity building training for the VSLA livelihood beneficiaries at the LGA level and supervise the implementation of sensitization activities for targeted communities about strengthening livelihood restoration activities whilst collaborating with key stakeholders in feasible livelihood restoration activities at the LGA level
- Support the Livelihood Officer to conduct livelihood needs assessments and identify needs and opportunities in implementing locations.
- Be the focal point for all VSLA activities within the implementing location.
- Prepare necessary documentation and reporting for activities implemented in accordance with donor rules and regulations.
- Follow up with Village agents and groups to ensure timely implementation of activities.
- Support to track the progress of activities, challenges encountered, lessons learned and good practices and Compile collected data, pictures and other information from the field
- Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within HARAF and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
- Support work plan development with all stakeholders for better project coordination’s.
- Prepare activities reports according to the agreed timeline and relevant templates.
- Typically involved in developing others’ skills by directing project work or in coaching and mentoring others.
Qualification and Experience
- Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship or Sociology
- Minimum 1year experience setting up and implementing livelihoods or income generating projects preferably with an NGO in a host community or IDP setting Skills or training in basic bookkeeping or administration is desirable
- Prior experience working with local governments and stakeholders in the implementation of projects
- Knowledge of the key issues and trends in Food Security and Livelihoods intervention
- Working knowledge of MS Office and other relevant computer applications,
- A keen understanding of business/enterprise development and development issues including Groups Savings and Loan approaches
- Experience in working in harsh climatic conditions and ability to communicate fluently in (Hausa) language will be an added advantage.
