Edo State LGAs of Intervention: Ovia South, Oredo and Orhiomowon

Job Description

  • ARFH currently implements the Integrated Child Health and Social Services Award (ICHSSA) 2 Project in twenty-four (24) Local Government Areas in Lagos and Edo States with support from USAID and working in partnership with FHI 360 and Project HOPE through thirteen (13) community-based organizations (CBOs) providing quality care, treatment and support to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
  • The overall goal of the ARFH ICHSSA 2 Project is to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on vulnerable children and their households in Lagos and Edo States, through multi-prong approaches.
  • Violence against children continues to be a significant problem across the globe, especially in low- and middle-income countries where families face the brunt of poverty, unemployment, lack of basic services, as well as high rates of diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
  • Children living in families affected by adverse factors, such as poverty, substance abuse, and intimate partner violence, are more likely to develop behavioural difficulties. Positive and supportive parenting has been identified as a protective factor to reduce and prevent the risk of violence against children and adolescents.
  • ICHSSA 2 Project is collaborating with Clowns Without Borders to rollout the implementation of the Sinovuyo Teens Programme which is an evidence-based parenting intervention for caregivers and their adolescents’ children.
  • ARFH currently seeks application for Training Facilitators to roll out the Sinovuyo Teens Programme with fidelity and success.
  • The Facilitators will be responsible for first mastering a 14-hour curriculum for Caregivers and their adolescent children and promote practices & behaviours that build competencies.
  • This is expected to equip parents and caregivers with skills to prevent and manage disruptive behaviour amongst children, which, in turn, reduces parental stress.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Must be available to participate in a training to learn the Sinovuyo Teens Programme and rollout the intervention in the targeted LGA/community(s)
  • Deliver 14 group sessions for parents and teens according to requirements, with a co-facilitator.
  • Identify and resolve challenges.
  • Ensure peer coaching groups are running smoothly.
  • Provide information on access to existing services and support.
  • Complete facilitator reports.
  • Conduct follow-up home visits / calls (optional)
  • Attend coaching sessions. Selected personnel should be able to dedicate at least 2 days per group session to complete all responsibilities
  • Track all abuse disclosures and referrals in approved registered and reporting forms.
  • Compile and submit monthly reports to CSO and forward to ARFH Supervisor
  • Any other duties as required by the project from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of an OND or BSc in Science or Social Sciences
  • 1 -2 years experience of working in the field of OVC, Gender-based Violence will be an added advantage.
  • MUST be available for full-time training & regular delivery of the program with the youths beginning immediately after the 4 weeks training for 12 weeks.
  • MUST be available full time to regularly ensure delivery of the program to the youths for between 6 – 9 months in 2022.
  • Should have demonstrated proficiency communicating in English and local languages for the target LGA/community (Yoruba and pidgin).
  • Must be adolescent and youth-friendly
  • Must possess the ability to work within a team
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Openness to feedback is desirable
  • Willing to work with families is of important priority.

Required Experience:
Desirable Applicants’ Profile:

  • Age 20+ (Ideally between 20 – 35)
  • Ability to write reflection reports
  • Prior experience facilitating youth and/or family groups
  • Prior knowledge and experience in early childhood development, child protection laws, child development & referral policies
  • MUST be resident in Lagos or Edo States and in the LGAs where the project is to be implemented
  • Passionate about the rights of women and children
  • Leadership qualities (Critical thinking, Humility, Honesty, Determination, Flexibility)
  • Ability to be a positive role model for boys
  • Good listener & communicator in both English and local language(s)
  • Passionate about working with and being a mentor to youth participants

Working Relationship:

  • The prospective facilitators will work with other existing structures – Case Managers, CBO staff, Program monitor, SI and Program staff.
