Senior Research Economist at the Policy Innovation Center (PIC)


The Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) is Africa’s first national institutionalized behavioural initiative. We support governments and stakeholders in making behaviorally informed decisions and generating evidence for impactful interventions in key areas: Global Health, Education, Innovative Digital Solutions, Agriculture, Climate and Food Security, Poverty, Livelihoods, and Jobs, Governance, Gender Inclusion

Initiated by the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in 2017, the PIC was launched in October 2021 after the success of the interim Policy Innovation Unit (PIU). We provide evidence-driven, contextually relevant, and sustainable solutions to development issues through Behavioral Diagnostics, HumanCentered Design, Sustainable Delivery.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Senior Research Economist

Location: Central Business District, Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities
Research:

  • Lead or support the end-to-end management of research projects, from planning and designing methodologies to data collection, analysis, and report preparation including conducting a comprehensive situational analysis to identify the key barriers and challenges facing women in economics in academic institutions.
  • Support the design and testing of use cases and pilots for female leadership pathways in economics.
  • Draft and contribute to publications including research reports, working papers, guidance and blogs.
  • Support the publications process, including peer review, editing and promotion of evidence products.
  • Represent the Centre’s evidence work externally in working groups, meetings and events.
  • Support the MEAL team in developing and implementing robust MEAL plans, systems, processes, and tools on projects and as may be required.
  • Support routine monitoring and reporting.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy:

  • Engage in stakeholder mapping and advocacy to identify gatekeepers, and potential champions (male allies and female leaders), including identifying interest and influential stakeholders that must be engaged for strategic partnerships.
  • Lead or support the development and implementation of multi-level stakeholder engagements strategy.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement and advocacy efforts towards achieving stated project objectives.
  • Initiate and nurture relationships with partner institutions and agencies that support project implementation.
  • Organize and drive participatory institutional dialogues that would facilitate the design and co-creation of strategic plans for bridging the gap in the low participation of women in economics.
  • Develop an action plan and roadmap that reflects a phased approach to institutional change.
  • Support the creation of dedicated academic associations for women in the field of economics in Nigeria.

Capacity Building:

  • Support institutional capacity building and policy development to operationalise the roadmap.
  • Develop a comprehensive capacity-building training agenda that includes detailed modules, objectives, learning outcomes, and evaluation methods to enhance the skills and knowledge of participants.
  • Support the development of an action plan and roadmap that reflects a phased approach to institutional change.
  • Provide support as may be needed to implement the road map and policies developed.

Qualifications

  • Interested candidates should possess a PhD with 12-19 years experience.

Salary
N750,000 – N1,500,000 / Month.
