Senior Compliance Officer at Street Child

Street Child is a UK charity, established in 2008, that aims to create educational opportunity for some of the world’s most vulnerable children Street Child began its work in Sierra Leone in 2008 working with a small number of street children, eight years later we have helped to transform the lives of more than 50,000 children across Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal. In 2017 we launched our first project in Nigeria helping children impacted by conflict in the North East to access education.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting day-to-day compliance activities and ensuring that Street Child maintains full adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. You will also support the compliance capacity of implementing partners to strengthen overall program integrity. You will be responsible for conducting thorough compliance assessments, managing compliance risk, and assisting in the development and delivery of compliance training programs for both staff and partners. Responsibilities
 

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining effective compliance programs and policies
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure adherence to regulatory and organizational standards
  • Monitor compliance risk areas and report findings to senior management
  • Support investigations into compliance issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Collaborate with various teams and implementing partners to promote a culture of compliance and ethical behavior
  • Provide training, mentorship, and guidance on compliance matters to staff and implementing partners
  • Support and strengthen partners’ compliance systems, including conducting partner assessments and follow-ups
  • Prepare compliance reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Stay informed of changes in laws and regulations impacting the nonprofit sector and advise on necessary adjustments
  • Undertake frequent field travel to support compliance monitoring and partner oversight
     

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, business administration, finance, or a related field
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in compliance or regulatory roles, preferably within the nonprofit sector
  • Strong understanding of compliance regulations and best practices
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
