Job Purpose
The Security Officer provides technical support to the country team and ensures compliance with INTERSOS’s risk management plan across all dispersed operational offices. The role focuses on establishing and maintaining structures and systems for effective safety and security management, while providing guidance to develop and update field security plans tailored to program contexts.

Key Responsibilities
Staff, Program, and Premises Security
- Ensure the safety and security of INTERSOS premises, personnel, and assets.
- Monitor surveillance equipment and inspect office compounds, access points, fences, and gates to prevent unauthorized entry.
- Supervise security guards, ensuring 24/7 presence, awareness of responsibilities, and access to essential equipment (e.g., torch, mobile phones, emergency contacts).
- Regularly inspect premises for fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and updated emergency contact lists.
- Conduct security assessments for new premises prior to lease agreements.
- Identify exit routes and evacuation protocols for distribution points in case of emergencies.
Transport and Movement Security
- Ensure vehicles are equipped with updated fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency numbers.
- Monitor vehicle movement, speed limits, and compliance with safety measures using GPS tracking systems.
- Coordinate staff field movements in collaboration with Field Security Focal Points.
Communication and Reporting
- Provide regular security updates to staff through email, SMS, or other communication systems.
- Maintain communication with staff, security organizations, and stakeholders at Maiduguri and field levels.
- Ensure functionality of communication tools (e.g., VHF radios, Thuraya SAT phones, mobile phones).
- Follow up on Security Incident Reports (SIRs) and support in consolidating monthly security reports and analysis.
- Conduct security inductions and briefings for new staff and visitors.
Capacity Building
- Identify and facilitate safety and security training in collaboration with the Security Coordinator and HR department.
- Train staff on INTERSOS Country Security Plan, security context, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Position Requirements
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Intelligence and Security Studies, Cybersecurity, Strategic/Social Sciences, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- At least 12 months of experience working in security-sensitive environments, preferably in Northeast Nigeria.
- Formal or informal training in security is required.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English.
- Ability to manage stress and complexity while promoting safety and security.
- Strong motivation, flexibility, reliability, and trustworthiness.
- Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through training.
