Job Title: Security Manager – Internal
Location: Various locations with frequent coordination from Maiduguri, Nigeria
General Context of the Job/Project:
The Security Manager will plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of SHO staff, assets, and operations in all locations. This position involves monitoring security situations, providing advisory services, and coordinating with relevant security organizations to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Monitor security situations and developments in all locations where SHO operates, analyzing potential risks and threats to personnel, assets, and operations.
- Provide timely and accurate security advisories to SHO staff and management, including recommendations for mitigating risks and enhancing security measures.
- Liaise with the International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) and other relevant security organizations to gather and share information on security threats, incidents, and trends.
- Develop and implement security protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and contingency plans to ensure the safety and security of SHO personnel, assets, and operations.
- Conduct security assessments and audits of SHO facilities, offices, and accommodation to identify vulnerabilities and recommend security enhancements.
- Provide security briefings and training sessions for SHO staff on security awareness, risk mitigation strategies, and emergency response procedures.
- Coordinate with local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to build relationships and partnerships that enhance security and mitigate risks.
- Manage security incidents and emergencies, including coordinating responses, evacuations, and crisis management procedures as necessary.
- Monitor compliance with security policies and procedures among SHO staff, providing guidance and support as needed to ensure adherence to security protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of security incidents, reports, and other relevant documentation, ensuring confidentiality and data protection measures are followed.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field. Additional security-related certifications or training are preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in security management, preferably in humanitarian, development, or conflict-affected contexts.
- Strong understanding of security risk management principles, threat assessments, and security protocols in high-risk environments.
- Knowledge of local security dynamics, cultural sensitivities, and socio-political context in Nigeria, particularly in conflict-affected areas.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders, including local authorities, community leaders, and security counterparts.
- Proven ability to analyze complex security situations, make sound decisions under pressure, and communicate security advisories and recommendations effectively.
- Experience in conducting security assessments, developing security plans, and implementing security measures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
