All for Peace and Dignity (APADE) is an international not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, registered under Canadian law in 2014 and Nigeria government in 2021. Our mission is to work with vulnerable people in poverty and distress to improve their well-being and together create a positive change. APADE’s activities focus on emergency, early recovery, resilience, and sustainable development for all people in dire need, regardless of religious, political, or ethnic affiliation, while advocating for peace and dignity for all. APADE in collaboration with WFP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MASTER CARD FOUNDATION is to implement a project in Northeast Nigeria (Adamawa State). The aim is to strengthen local food systems and create job opportunities for young women and men through an inclusive agribusiness value chain. This initiative aligns with WFP’s objectives of strengthening local food systems and creating job opportunities for young women and men, transforming lives, and enhancing private sector engagement to achieve zero hunger, by promoting financial inclusion and empowering youth economically.

 

In this context, APADE is seeking to recruit a suitable, competent, and dedicated candidate for a job opportunity to fill the position of Safety And Security Assistant.  The Safety and Security Assistant supports the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of safety and security policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the safety of staff, assets, and operations in accordance with organizational policies, donor requirements

 

DETAILS OF THE JOB:

Job Title: Safety And Security Assistant

Location: Adamawa State, North East Nigeria.

Duty Station: Mubi Office

Department: Program.

Project Duration: 6 months.

Reports To:  Safety And Security Officer

 

Job Responsibilities


Security Planning & Monitoring:

  • Continuously monitor the security situation in the area of responsibility, tracking incidents, analyzing security trends, and providing timely updates and alerts to staff and management.
  • Compile accurate reports on security threats, risks, and trends that could adversely impact organizational operations to support reporting and decision-making.
  • Review security-related information (e.g., security incidents and events) and use corporate or local information management tools to provide basic analyses and reports for relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and update of security plans and contingency plans, in coordination with the Safety and Security Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to maintaining and updating security plans, physical preparations, and procedures to support preparedness for a crisis.
  • Assist in conducting security risk assessments (SRAs) and task-based risk assessments for field missions and activities.
  • Support the preparation and update of access and security reports, monthly and quarterly, as well as any other notes or contributions requested by the supervisor.
  • Maintain the whereabouts reporting system and track staff movement in the field.
  • Ensure security clearance request forms are properly prepared and submitted on time.
  • Verify that all vehicles are equipped with functional communication equipment (VHF, satellite phones), first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.
  • Enforce compliance with curfews, movement restrictions, and safety advisories.
  • Advise on safe movement of staff, including proper vehicle fleet management policies and adequate safety and communications equipment in vehicles.
  • Assist in management and maintenance of security equipment and identify new requirements to strengthen technology capacity.
  • Verify that minimum standards in communication equipment (GPS, satellite phones, VHF/HF radios) are available and functional in the field.
  • Ensure appropriate access controls are in place at organizational facilities.
  • Conduct physical security inspections of facilities, including office and residential premises.
  • Ensure fire detection devices and firefighting equipment are available on premises; maintain fire evacuation plans and conduct fire drills.
  • Conduct security inductions for all new staff and visitors within 24 hours of arrival.
  • Conduct basic security briefings for newly arrived personnel, as assigned.
  • Support implementation of security training plan for all staff; develop and apply evaluation processes to determine whether training competencies are met.
  • Organize refresher training for staff on security procedures and principles.
  • Maintain accurate records of all security-related incidents, near-misses, and security checks.
  • Submit mandatory reports including flash reports, weekly reports, and daily staff headcount and mission tracking.
  • Member of the crisis management team in the event of a major security incident.
  • Support staff to respond appropriately during a critical incident and report to supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Security Management, Criminology, Peace and Conflict Studies, Disaster Management, International Relations, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • A diploma or certification in Safety and Security Management, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Humanitarian Security, or Risk Management is an added advantage.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in safety and security, preferably within an NGO, UN agency, or humanitarian organization.
  • Experience conducting security risk assessments and security incident reporting.
  • Experience supporting field operations in challenging or insecure environments.
  • Familiarity with access control, staff movement tracking, and emergency response procedures.
  • Experience delivering security briefings or awareness sessions is an advantage

KEY SKILLS

  • Sound knowledge of humanitarian safety and security principles, risk assessment, and mitigation.
  • Ability to monitor security situations, analyze risks, and prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with GPS, communication, or security tracking systems.
  • Strong record-keeping skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to teamwork.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to field locations.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is an added advantage.
