Background
Center for Child Care and Human Development (C3HD) is a Child Centered and Women Focused (CCWF) non-governmental, non-tribal, non-religious and non-profitable organization established and registered with state in 2017 and later registered as a non-profit organization with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
C3HD was established to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable communities and especially women and children, people with disabilities and those affected by conflict and insurgency through maximizing contributions to Health care and wellbeing, Education, WASH, Gender, social and disability inclusions, Protection, Peace Building, and Economic recovery and Livelihood.
C3HD is striving for an all-inclusive community and human development for all, including populations who are marginalized, underserved or affected by conflict or insurgency, catering to their health and wellbeing. We have a mission of transforming the lives women and children on the edges of society and help them regain and pursue their dreams for sustainable development.
C3HD acts as an agent for change. For 5 years and in 4 states (Yobe, Borno, Adamawa and Kano States), we help women and children to overcome the massive problem they face through reducing inequality in accessing health services and education, responding to violence and exclusion, promoting food security, empowerment, peace and resilience building of communities to be able to withstand and respond to future hardships. We employ “the protective communities’ approach” to our programming’s by mainstreaming safeguarding and protection in our activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, Law, Public Health, Community Development, or any other relevant field.
- Additional certification or training in Protection, Safeguarding, GBV (Gender-Based Violence), Child Protection, or PSEA is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of humanitarian principles, child rights, and gender equality frameworks (e.g., IASC, Sphere Standards, and Core Humanitarian Standards) is an added advantage.
- Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or humanitarian organizations in protection or safeguarding roles is preferred.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, PSEA policies, and codes of conduct.
- Familiarity with reporting and referral mechanisms for protection and safeguarding incidents.
- Knowledge of confidentiality, survivor-centered approaches, and ethical standards in handling sensitive information.
- Ability to support the implementation of safeguarding risk assessments and mitigation plans.
- Skilled in conducting awareness sessions and capacity-building trainings on safeguarding, PSEA, and child protection for staff, partners, and community members.
- Ability to use culturally sensitive approaches to raise awareness about exploitation, abuse, and reporting mechanisms.
- Experience supporting the development and dissemination of IEC materials on safeguarding and protection.
- Ability to manage safeguarding complaints, ensuring they are properly documented and referred according to organizational policy.
- Skilled in maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics when dealing with sensitive or high- risk cases.
- Knowledge of basic psychological first aid (PFA) and survivor support principles is an asset.
- Ability to monitor compliance with organizational safeguarding policies across project sites.
- Skilled in data collection, incident tracking, and reporting for safeguarding and PSEA activities.
- Competence in preparing accurate and timely reports for management and donors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (knowledge of local languages is an advantage).
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with staff, partners, and communities.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
- Commitment to gender equality, child protection, and humanitarian principles.

Experience:
- Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in safeguarding, protection, gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, or related humanitarian/development work.
- Experience in implementing and monitoring Safeguarding and PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies within NGOs or community-based organizations.
- Practical experience in conducting awareness sessions, handling complaints, and providing support to survivors or affected persons.
- Familiarity with donor compliance and reporting requirements related to safeguarding and PSEA.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of the organization’s Safeguarding and PSEA policies across all projects and offices.
- Ensure that staff, partners, and volunteers understand and adhere to safeguarding and PSEA standards.
- Assist in conducting safeguarding risk assessments and ensure mitigation measures are integrated into program design and implementation.
- Organize and facilitate safeguarding and PSEA awareness sessions for staff, community members, and partners.
- Support capacity-building initiatives to strengthen understanding of safeguarding and protection principles among project teams.
- Disseminate information, education, and communication (IEC) materials on safeguarding and PSEA.
- Support the maintenance of confidential reporting and complaint-handling systems.
- Receive, document, and refer safeguarding or PSEA-related complaints in line with organizational procedures.
- Ensure survivors are referred to appropriate services in a safe, timely, and confidential manner.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with safeguarding and PSEA standards at the field level.
- Participate in field visits to ensure safeguarding measures are effectively implemented in all project activities.
- Support regular reporting and documentation of safeguarding and PSEA activities.
- Collaborate with program, HR, and MEAL teams to integrate safeguarding across all departments.
- Maintain effective communication with the Safeguarding/PSEA Focal Point and relevant external stakeholders, including protection clusters and service providers.
- Support coordination of community feedback mechanisms related to safeguarding concerns.
- Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, respect, and impartiality when handling safeguarding and PSEA issues.
- Uphold organizational values and demonstrate a zero-tolerance approach to sexual exploitation, abuse, or harassment.
