BACKGROUND
Fati Abubakar Arts Foundation (FAAF) is a registered nonprofit in Nigeria. The Foundation uses arts, photography and film to showcase life of ordinary Nigerians in a positive and uplifting way. The Foundation aimed at education in the area of digital literacy; photography, videography, audio documentaries, and social media. The founder started a personal project called Bits of Borno www.bitsofborno.com which has been profiled by the New York Times, CNN and many other news agencies. Subsequently, there was one successful photo workshop funded by USAID…The workshop was profiled by the BBC.
And with the support of Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF). https://atjlf.org/press-release-for-cohort-3-grantees/A collection called Kanem Creative [named after the Kanem Bornu Empire] will be first phase of our project.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This program aims to empower survivors of the Boko Haram conflict in Borno State by providing a platform for healing, self-expression, and truth-telling through photography, film, and audio documentaries. By fostering creative storytelling, the initiative addresses the lack of transitional justice strategies in the state, complementing existing reconstruction and psychosocial efforts with an emphasis on personal testimony and community-led healing.
The Kanem Creative Centre will serve as a hub for training and multimedia exhibitions, showcasing participants’ work to promote messages of peace, reconciliation, and accountability. The program will also counter negative narratives about life in conflict-affected Borno, equipping survivors with creative tools to document their experiences and share stories that inspire communal healing.
Additionally, young people, especially women, will be engaged to chronicle and document their surroundings, ensuring historical accountability and broadening the conversation around transitional justice. Implemented over two years, this program is a pioneering effort to integrate arts and storytelling into the healing and rebuilding processes of Borno State.
POSITION SUMMARY
FAAF seeks an experienced is seeking a skilled and passionate painter who has a strong foundation in painting, a creative mindset, and a desire to inspire and empower youth through visual arts. This role is part of a groundbreaking initiative using arts to foster reconciliation, peacebuilding, and transitional justice in Borno State.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create original paintings for exhibitions, workshops, and community projects.
- Mentor and train young aspiring artists in various painting techniques.
- Collaborate with our team to design and execute creative projects.
- Contribute to fostering a positive and inspiring artistic environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience in painting, with a strong portfolio of work.
- A degree in painting is desired but not compulsory
- Ability to teach and share skills with others, especially young artists.
- Passion for the art and community empowerment.
- Ability to work with young children and young adults in a conflict context.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to details.

FAAF intends to award an invoice as a result of this RFP, though other contract types may be employed if required.
- Selection Criteria
FAAF will make an award decision on the basis of the excellence of the technically acceptable (meets or exceeds the stated technical specifications) proposals received.
- Other Conditions
The following conditions should be considered while preparing a competent proposal.
- Modification and Withdrawal of RFP
FAAF reserves the right to modify by written notice the terms of this RFP at any time in its sole discretion. FAAF also reserves the right to withdraw this RFP at any time – with or without statement of cause – prior to actual award.
- Multiple Awards and No Obligation to Award
FAAF reserves the right to issue more than one award. FAAF may reject any or all proposals or not award a contract under this RFP if such action is in the best interests of FAAF, its client, or the Host Country. FAAF may also waive informalities and minor irregularities in proposals received, should such actions be in the best interest of FAAF, its client, or the Host Country.
