We are ALIMA, an alliance between doctors, local NGOs and researchers, which relies on co-construction. Our ambition is to transform humanitarian medicine by relying on research and innovation to increase the effectiveness of its actions and better protect populations from the health crises of tomorrow.
In 2025, we are expanding our activities by strengthening our presence in West and Central Africa and continuing our deployment in East Africa and Haiti. In this dynamic, we are launching a call for applications for future heads of mission.
YOUR MISSION
The ALIMA Head of Mission is the NGO’s representative in their assigned country. Reporting to a Program Manager based at headquarters in Dakar, you are responsible for developing and implementing the operational strategy at the country level.
You are the guarantor of the quality of your mission’s activities . You will launch initiatives, define the objectives of each department and provide the means for the coordinators to achieve them. You will have to plan, organize, coordinate all the mission’s activities and find solutions when necessary. In some countries, ALIMA works with local partner NGOs. In these countries, you will also be responsible for participating in strengthening their operational and managerial capacities.
You will regularly analyze the humanitarian, political, economic and social context of the country in order to propose a relevant and coherent operational strategy in relation to the context and needs, and adapted to ALIMA standards.
You will represent ALIMA in your country of mission and maintain close relationships and regular exchanges with the health administrative authorities at the national level. You will identify, develop and maintain a network of collaborations adapted to operational and security needs. You will organize and/or develop the partnership within the framework of ALIMA’s international strategy. You will be invited to intervene in clusters in order to feed and influence the definition of humanitarian/medical needs and operational priorities.
You will be on the front line to identify new donors and funding opportunities while maintaining relationships with existing donors. You will take final responsibility for writing responses to calls for projects and interim reports.
You will be the first person responsible for security on your mission . You will continuously analyze the evolution of the political and security context. You will coordinate risk analysis and mitigation work. You will propose, ensure the implementation and adjust security rules.
You will be responsible for a multidisciplinary team to whom, with the help of your medical coordinator, you will provide your strategic and operational advice on a daily basis. You will define performance plans, support careers and conduct an analysis of the skills present and necessary for the quality of operations.
You will be responsible for the financial and technical resources of the mission. You will ensure their use in compliance with strategic and operational guidelines. You will enforce ALIMA’s budgetary and accounting standards. You will ensure and ensure transparency in the use of resources.
You will be responsible for promoting ALIMA’s activities in your mission country. You will initiate all visibility and communication actions to promote activities within the framework of ALIMA’s communication policy and the priorities defined by Headquarters. You are the guarantor of the responsiveness and availability of the Mission to respond to requests as needed.
You will implement protective measures and in particular preventive measures against abuse of power, sexist and sexual violence within the framework of ALIMA’s policy. You will be responsible for setting up a work environment that allows everyone to flourish and primarily serves our beneficiaries.
YOUR PROFILE
- Holder of a Master’s degree or equivalent
- You have at least 7 years of experience in humanitarian action, including several significant experiences in ALIMA’s areas of intervention.
- You have at least 3 years of experience in one or more project and team management positions.
- You adhere to the principles of the ALIMA charter and its abuse prevention policy.
- You are committed, willing and motivated to join us or continue your career with us. You are diplomatic, a good negotiator, determined, patient, but also innovative and creative. You know how to lead teams in a changing context.

TERMS
Duration and type of contract: 12 months, renewable once
Position start date: as needed. In 2025, positions will be vacant between June and July 2025
Salary: According to ALIMA salary scale + recognition of experience + Perdiem
ALIMA supports:
- Travel costs between your home country and the mission location
- Your accommodation in the mission country
- Medical coverage from the first day of contract to one month after the departure date from the mission country for you and your family. Foresight, evacuation and repatriation
- A daily per diem
- A 10-day break every 3 months with full coverage of transport costs to your usual place of residence
