Protection of Family Links Field Officer 2

(Grade B2) 

Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader in Damaturu and the Head of Sub-Delegation, The Protection Family Links Field Officer 2 supports the implementation and monitoring of ICRC Protection Family Links (PFL) activities in Yobe State. S/He assists in any other protection activities when and if required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs internal and external follow-up of individual cases autonomously, in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Registers unaccompanied children and vulnerable persons, ensures they are regularly visited, and families are traced.
  • Receives visitors and ensures that visits are appropriately followed up.
  • Translates and interprets from and to Hausa upon request.
  • Carries out administrative tasks relating to the follow-up of PFL field assignments.
  • Plans, carries out and reports autonomously on PFL activities and the collection of statistical data in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Contributes to analyses of the security, socio-economic, cultural, and political environment in which the ICRC is working, shares relevant information with team members and reports any changes in the situation.
  • Contributes to the identification of needs, design, and implementation of projects.
  • Collects, compiles, and translates PFL-related information and prepares written reports.
  • Assists in institutional exercises relating to planning, budgeting, and monitoring programmes.
  • Plans, organizes, and reports on internal and external meetings.
  • Develops and maintains contact with municipal/regional stakeholders, local/regional NRCS branches, the local population, and suppliers.
  • Prepares, participates in, and reports on all aspects of field visits.
  • Provides technical supports and supervises volunteers in the implementation and monitoring of PFL activities.
  • Fosters a constructive working environment (multidisciplinary approach, good team dynamics) among team members.
  • Ensures the sustainability of their work and puts in place a system for archiving their work for the purposes of institutional memory.
  • Liaises with the NRCS on all matters relating to PFL in his/her area of responsibility in Yobe state.
  • Organises periodic meeting and supervises the activities of the NRCS PFL volunteers in his/her area of responsibility in Yobe state through the PFL focal point and team leaders.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, humanitarian affairs, or any other relevant field
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years working experience. 
  • Working proficiency in English and Hausa compulsory – Kanuri or Fulani an asset
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), collaborative spaces
  • Knowledge of the cultural and socio-economic environment in Northern Nigeria
  • Applicants should have a Nigerian nationality or hold a working permit

Desired profile and Skills

  • Previous working experience with an INGO is an asset.
  • Experience with the Nigerian Red Cross Society is an asset.
  • Excellent planning and writing abilities
  • Respect for confidentiality levels.
  • Empathy and patience
