Job Title: Protection/GBV Manager – Internal
Location: Frequent travel to implementation locations, with a base in Maiduguri, Nigeria
General Context of the Job/Project:
The Protection/GBV Manager plays a pivotal role in supervising and supporting SHO, national institutions, and vulnerability assessments to respond effectively to protection issues, referrals, and case management, particularly Gender-Based Violence (GBV), within the framework of CCCM programs and basic health services for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on protection and GBV issues to SHO staff, partners, and relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments to identify protection risks and vulnerabilities among IDPs and host communities.
- Develop and implement strategies to address protection concerns, including GBV prevention and response, child protection, and protection mainstreaming across SHO programs.
- Supervise and support case management processes for GBV survivors, ensuring adherence to international standards and protocols.
- Coordinate with national institutions, local authorities, and community leaders to strengthen referral pathways and access to protection services for affected populations.
- Collaborate with health service providers to integrate GBV prevention and response components into basic health services for IDPs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of protection interventions, conducting regular field visits to assess program implementation and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide training and capacity-building support to SHO staff and partners on protection principles, GBV prevention and response, and relevant international legal frameworks.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of vulnerable populations, including women, children, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups, within SHO programs and with external stakeholders.
- Prepare regular reports, including donor reports, case studies, and best practices, to document program achievements and lessons learned in protection and GBV programming.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Human Rights, International Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and GBV programming, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
- Strong understanding of international protection principles, human rights standards, and GBV prevention and response strategies.
- Experience in conducting vulnerability assessments, developing protection strategies, and implementing case management processes.
- Knowledge of international legal frameworks and conventions related to human rights, gender equality, and protection of civilians.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including survivors of GBV, community leaders, government agencies, and NGOs.
- Proven leadership abilities, with experience supervising and mentoring staff in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
