Under the direct supervision of the Protection Delegate, the Protection Field Officer 1 contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC protection activities in the Port Harcourt Sub Delegation Area of Responsibility.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to analyses of the security, socioeconomic, cultural and political environment relevant to the ICRC, shares relevant information with team members, and reports any change in the situation.
- Contributes to the design and implementation of projects.
- Collects, compiles and interprets protection-related information (with appropriate care for staff risk management).
- Analyses and contributes to written internal reporting and activity programming (as part of institutional exercises).
- Helps to make internal and external meetings meaningful (through preparation, participation, reporting and follow-up).
- Develops and maintains contact with the municipal/regional authorities, local/regional National Society branches, the local population, suppliers, etc.
- Prepares, participates in and reports on all aspects of field assignments.
- Fosters a conducive environment (multidisciplinary approach, good team dynamic) among team members.
- Ensures the sustainability of their work and puts in place a system for archiving their work for the purposes of institutional memory.
- Monitors the humanitarian situation and related protection concerns in the AoR and shares relevant information or situational changes with the line manager.
- Supports the line manager in reporting and documenting (PROT6 entries).
- Acts as the focal person for CBP activities from the protection department and participates and contributes to the relevant CBP activities, reporting and implementation.
- Participates in field missions to conduct PFL services for beneficiaries in POH AoR.
- Distributes and collects RCMs/Safe and Wells in coordination with the line manager in POH AoR.
- Contribute in coaching and training National Society volunteers on PFL activities.
- Assists the Head of Sub-Delegation (HoSD) in preparing, organizing and implementing HCiD activities.
- Ensures relevant and timely internal reporting and networking with relevant stakeholders and health facilities.
- Organizes workshops and meetings in close coordination with the HCiD team in ABJ and with the approval of the HoSD.
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, Social sciences, Political sciences, Law or any other relevant field.
- 3-5 years cognate experience with a Humanitarian Organization and/or NGO/CSO, or work related to the public interest.
Desired profile and Skills
- Good knowledge of the political, security, and socio-cultural dynamics of the South East and South South of Nigeria in general.
- Good communication skills with excellent knowledge of written and oral English and very good reporting skills (writing reports).
- Good understanding of the do no harm principle.
- Good ability to interview and speak to persons in sensitive situations.
- Good public speaking skills and proven ability to effectively engage and introduce the ICRC to multi-level stakeholders (beneficiaries, security personnel, community leaders, religious groups, other humanitarian actors).
- Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Holder of valid Drivers’ License desirable
