We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Project Officer – Agriculture to join our team in Maiduguri, Jere LGA.
Job Summary
The Project Officer – Agriculture will lead agricultural activities (crops and poultry rearing) for the DRIVE project in MMC, Jere LGAs, working closely with local communities, stakeholders, and agriculture extension workers. You will support planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting on agriculture and livelihood activities to ensure program quality and efficiency. Your leadership will help DRIVE achieve sustainable impact for vulnerable communities in Jere LGA.
Job Title: Project Officer – Agriculture
Duration: 12 Months (with possible extension)
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State
Travel Requirement: 80% field travel in Jere LGA
Key Responsibilities
- Program Implementation: Lead the planning and execution of agricultural activities in MMC, Jere LGA communities.
- Training & Capacity Building: Build technical capacity of participants on crop production through demonstration-based training with agriculture extension workers.
- Participant Support: Organize participants into learning groups and manage identification of their seed and tool needs to support provision of farming inputs.
- Community Coordination: Work with community leaders to ensure safe access to farmland and water resources for sustainable farming.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Ensure accurate, timely reporting of activities and outcomes; document field activities in collaboration with JDPC and CRS teams.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with DRIVE sector staff, implementing partners, and local committees to integrate interventions effectively.
- Gap Analysis: Assist in context analysis and propose feasible solutions to identified program gaps in agriculture.
- MEAL Support: Support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems, including participant identification and activity evaluations.
- Farmer Training: Train farmers and monitor the application of skills and techniques to improve crop and vegetable husbandry.
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma in Agriculture or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in agricultural projects, particularly with IDPs, host communities, and returnees.
- Practical experience in emergency agriculture, vegetable farming, and cereal crops under rainfed and irrigated systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with North-East Nigeria and using market-based mechanisms (e.g., CVA modalities, RedRose platform) for agriculture inputs distribution.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and Hausa. Knowledge of Kanuri or Shuwa Arabic is an advantage.
Skills and Abilities
- Agricultural Expertise: Strong knowledge of subsistence farming, crop production, and poultry farming.
- Community Engagement: Skilled in mobilizing and organizing community groups and building relationships with local stakeholders.
- Project Management: Experience in agriculture and livelihood project management, with strong planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptability: Ability to work in physically and mentally demanding environments; good physical fitness.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and web conferencing applications.
