The project coordinator will lead on the implementation of a flood response project which will deliver a food and hygiene intervention through cash vouchers, combined with hygiene promotion and other WASH components that are critical to stopping the spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases in the project location. The Project Coordinator position will ensure close and effective coordination with the MEAL and program teams, as well as program support teams to ensure CARE is able to deliver timely, effective and high-quality humanitarian responses directly or with and through partners based on the Country Office Program Strategy. The position will coordinate/supervise all the food security and nutrition response in 4 LGAs of Yobe State (Karasuwa & Nguru LGAs) and Jigawa State (Hadejia & Jahun LGAs).

Responsibilities

Project Management                                                                                                                          

  • Provide strategic leadership of the LDS Food Response intervention in Yobe and Jigawa.
  • Ensure quality delivery of the project, including up-to-date project work plans, budget management (maintaining satisfactory burn rates and realistic projections), and reporting.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a robust Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEAL) System for the project, project monitoring, using collected data for decision-making and informing county office strategy.
  • Work closely with CO Communication Officer to ensure Project visibility.
  • Manage project partnerships with government, local and peer organizations at state and local government levels.
  • Ensure effective technical support to the project, including facilitating capacity building of staff and ensuring quality delivery of technical assistance by the technical team.
  • Contribute to build field office, partner and staff capacity in considering and integrating gender equality throughout emergency policies, procedures and approaches.
  • Ensure that gender equality is integrated into all aspects of CARE’s programming and organizational culture.

Evidence-based Learning                                                                                             

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a Knowledge Management Framework, which ensures that project best practices and lessons inform program design and strategy development.
  • Lead the documentation of project learning to share internally with other projects in the CO and externally with partners and other parts of CARE.
  • Organize and oversee periodic project review and learning events with partners and other stakeholders.

Leadership and Supervisory Role

  • Implementing Performance management for direct reports in line with CARE Nigeria People and Culture (HR) requirements
  • Team building:    Support efforts to ensure that the program development is building on CO lessons, evidence of impact and experience (i.e. best practices and lesson learnt, accountability review, after action review).
  • Work closely with the country team and security team in supporting and adhering to policies that support the safety and security of the team.

Other Responsibilities as Assigned                       

Resource Mobilization

  • Play a key role in Country Office Resource Development efforts as may be directed by the Senior Manager for Business Development and Partnerships.

Required:

  • University degree (Bachelor or Masters) in Project Management, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Nutrition and/or Public Health
  • At least 4-5 years of experience in project management in the food security and / or livelihood sector, and preferably in a non-governmental organization of humanitarian and international character
  • Previous experience in food distribution supervisory field is preferable
  • Experience with survey methodologies, nutrition assessment and relevant data analysis
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Advanced computers skills at least intermediate skills in windows-based word processing, spreadsheet and nutrition/public health software
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, communication and public speaking skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and work without direction.
