About the Job
The Project Assistant (Livelihood) will support the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Thrive & Rise initiative to train adolescents, youths and pregnant women in climate-smart agriculture, food/livestock/aquaculture production and processing, and entrepreneurship through strengthened incubation centers. Seed capital, mentorship, and access to markets will empower youth-led agribusinesses to thrive, while helping reduce food insecurity and youth radicalization in Girei and Fufore LGA of Adamawa state.
Key Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the Livelihoods Officer, the Project Assistant is required to support implementation of project activities in the two LGAs in accordance with the project work plan and objectives, including assist with community outreach and engagement, including project participant registration, community-led planning and implementation of project activities; project participants’ selection takes into consideration gender, age, and conduct the project participant profile registration and verification.
- Assist the Livelihoods Officer in training beneficiaries on diversification of livelihoods strategies, including climate-smart agriculture, food/livestock/aquaculture production and processing, and entrepreneurship among others to enhance their self-reliance.
- Develop training materials, presentations, and resources to support the training sessions.
- Maintain accurate records of asset distribution for transparency and accountability.
- Provide guidance to project participants on the proper use and maintenance of distributed assets.
- Collect and analyze data on implementation, attendance, project participant feedback, and performance.
- Provide hands-on support and assistance to project participant during training on agricultural practices, including aquaculture.
- Aid in the setup of demonstration plots and the facilitation of training sessions, enabling project participants to learn and apply modern techniques for sustainable agriculture.
- Work closely with community leaders and project participant to promote active participation in thrive and rise initiative activities.
- Help create awareness about the benefits of sustainable agricultural practices and food security initiatives.
- Collect data during field visits, maintain accurate records of beneficiaries and training attendance, and support the monitoring of project activities.
- Provide regular updates to the livelihood office Officer and the head of programs on activity progress, challenges encountered, and project participant feedback.
- Assist in the distribution of materials and equipment, ensuring proper inventory management and documenting all items distributed to project participants.
- Help establish and maintain a feedback mechanism for project participants, addressing concerns promptly and relaying issues to the Livelihood Officer as needed.
- Ensure all training and implementation adhere to HARAF and donor guidelines for quality and effectiveness.
- Represent HARAF positively in the community, fostering strong relationships with local stakeholders, including community leaders and partner organizations.
- Facilitate discussions and promote collaboration with community members to ensure the effective delivery of project activities.
- Promote safeguarding standards amongst community members, ensuring a safe environment for all project participants.
- Adhere to HARAF’s compliance and ethics standards and maintain the highest level of integrity in all work activities.
- Respect and promote gender equality and inclusion in all program activities, ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities for all genders.
Qualification/professional competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Aquaculture, Fisheries, Agricultural Extension, or related fields.
- At least 2 years’ experience in agricultural, food security, fish farming, or livelihood support roles, (NGO experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of crop production, livestock management, and aquaculture systems (e.g. catfish, integrated fish farming).
- Experience in community mobilization, training facilitation, and cooperative/group strengthening.
- Experience in field data collection, report writing and a basic understanding of sustainable agriculture, including aquaculture.
- Fluency in English and Hausa is relevant to the project location.
