Program Officer – Social and Behavioural Change at Survive Fistula Healthcare Foundation

Survive Fistula Healthcare Foundation (SFHF) is a non-governmental organization created to support the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) rights and needs of women, girls, and families with a special focus on Fistula Prevention, Mobilization, Treatment, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration.

Essential Responsibilities:
The SBC Program Officer will:

  • Provide technical support to the organization in the areas of SBCC and community engagement.
  • Coordinate the development of communication strategy and identification of community engagement activities for inclusion in work plans and budgets, including
  • budget estimates for planned activities
  • Identify and provide guidance to community based organizations and structures in focal state such as ward development committees, health educators, religious and
  • community leaders, men and women groups to lead community awareness-raising about prevention and treatment of obstetric fistula.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training/capacity building activities for community based groups, including leading training sessions, to build capacity of local structures on
  • skills and approaches to foster positive attitudes on MCH, SRHR
  • Facilitate immediate and long-range social and community mobilization activities related to reproductive health, maternal and child health, and obstetric fistula at multiple levels, including individual households, local leadership, grassroots organizations, local, state and national government
  • In collaboration with other technical staff, develop tools for monitoring and evaluation of community mobilization activities, and support in verification of community data.
  • Provide technical support in the development of relevant SBCC materials for use in awareness raising
  • Coordinate advocacy to relevant government and development partners for smooth implementation of project activities
  • Writing and review of all community mobilization reports, success stories, feasibility assessments, recommendations, and research
  • Interface with the mass media through workshops and roundtable on Project visibility
  • Supervise all community mobilization staff and community mobilizers at the state and local levels.
  • Perform other tasks as maybe assigned from time to time.

Qualifications/Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor Degree or Higher National Diploma from a recognized higher institution in public health, communication, health planning or related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in community engagement
  • Experience in providing support for community mobilization or SBCC preferred
  • Experience with report writing
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially with community groups, other technical staff, experts, and with counterparts from the public, private and NGO sectors.
  • Computer skills with MS Word and MS Excel essential. Familiarity with software such as
  • SPSS, Stata, MS Access, an advantage
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and to deal with variety of individuals from various socio economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English language.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work proactively, organize and manage own work and assist others to do the same
