Program Officer at Gongola Health and Development Initiative

Gongola Health and Development Initiative is a NGO here in Jalingo Taraba State, with a physical office here in Jalingo. The NGO is registered with all appropriate bodies and has the legal backing and document to operate here in Nigeria. Her mission is in community health projects as well as empowerment programs. Recently, its one of the few local NGOs that got shortlisted by NYFF for a youth empowerment project in Taraba State.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Program Officer

Location: Jalingo, Taraba

Job Summary

  • The Program Officer will be responsible for the effective planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of assigned health programs/projects.
  • S/he will work closely with community stakeholders, local partners, and other team members to ensure programs are delivered efficiently, on time, and within budget, aligning with the organization’s strategic objectives and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Program Planning & Design:

  • Contribute to the development of new program proposals, concept notes, and work plans, aligning with organizational goals and donor priorities.
  • Conduct needs assessments and research to inform program design and identify target populations.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including objectives, activities, timelines, and budgets.

Program Implementation & Coordination:

  • Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day implementation of program activities in the field, ensuring adherence to established plans and quality standards.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field teams and implementing partners.
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community engagement activities.
  • Ensure all program activities comply with internal policies, donor regulations, and relevant national guidelines (e.g., Ministry of Health guidelines in Nigeria).
  • Manage and support program staff, volunteers, and external partners.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL):

  • Develop and implement MEAL plans to track program progress, measure impact, and ensure accountability.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret program data to inform decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor program implementation, identify challenges, and provide on-the-spot support.
  • Participate in program evaluations, surveys, and follow-up activities.
  • Document and share lessons learned and best practices across programs.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare accurate, timely, and high-quality program reports (e.g., weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual reports) for internal stakeholders, donors, and partners.
  • Maintain comprehensive program documentation, including project files, records, and relevant data.
  • Contribute to the development of communication materials to showcase program achievements.

Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, local NGOs, and beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among all stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, workshops, and relevant forums as required.

Budget Management & Resource Mobilization:

  • Assist in managing program budgets, tracking expenditures, and ensuring responsible resource allocation.
  • Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and propose corrective actions.
  • Contribute to identifying new funding opportunities and supporting grant writing efforts.
